I just bought this off of Craigslist for $75, brand new and it has the rod. Now just need to get the MC and hoses.

Thanks for the great info.

So... who wants to shoot a vid of the brake pedal in action? I hate having 75% travel before hitting hard braking.

I you remove the vacuum pump, and at same time convert to the 99-03 tensioner you can reuse your stock belt. Actually it will be a tad long. I usually space the alternator up about 5/16", that puts the tensioner in middle of its range.
Haven't heard anyone mention, but other good thing about the hydro boost is that the f superduty ran a bigger bore master cylinder than the truck. F superduty is 1 5/16 vs the late style being 1 1/4, early 1 1/8.
Also, a good cooler should be used to help reject heat. The stock return squiggly on engine crossmember doesn't cut it for the oem, much less a hydro boost.

Generally, the booster (Motorcraft BRB-39) and master (Motorcraft BRMC-39) have been cheaper than RockAuto even with the discount lately and shipping is free on these items at Amazon.

Is there a barb or port on the steering box that you need route a hose to, to install hydroboost? Anyone know if a 96 version hydroboost would work?

You can use a plastic Tee fitting on the power steering return line as the return for the hydroboost system. The F-SuperDuty Power Steering pump has an additional tit for the hydroboost return.
The OBS F-SuperDuty hydroboost units from 1990 to 1997 work. The new Super Duty hydroboost units need to be modified to work.

I'm doing this now. I got a new reservoir from ford so I didn't have to tee it in.

The first conversion I ever did was about 12 years ago and with a 99 up booster.
To use a 99 up booster on. 97 down you need to first cut 1.5" off the pushrod. The mount/ flange to bolt it up to firewall needs to be fabricated. You need to use a 99 up ms, but need to add a portioning valve to rear line. I always just put an adjustable unit on. The front oem brake line connects, it's the rear line that is different.
Nice thing about 99-04 ms is that the bore is larger than the f superduty, it's 1 3/8 vs the old being 1 5/16.
If you used a 99 up booster, you could use a 05 up ms and have even bigger bore. In 05 they upped it to 1 1/2. Anything helps.

I really appreciate the help everyone. That information about the 99+ parts is fantastic. I've never seen so much posted about that particular way. If anyone cares I believe I found a 93 fsuperduty hydroboost $200 for everything. I already bought one or else I would have taken the deal.

If you don't add a cooler, maybe hair over a qt on completely drained system.
It should have a cooler.

Anyone have some 350010 gates hose in the garage? I ordered some and I think the shipper shipped me crap hose. I called him out on it and he assures me it's gates. Can someone post up the 350010 hose if you have any? Thanks

So I'm not real impressed with my hydroboost conversion so far. Yes the brakes are way better, but the pedal is pretty hard to where if my wife had to drive the truck I don't think she could press the pedal. Most of the other hydroboost systems I have driven are much softer of a pedal. Mine is hard from first touch of the brake. Thoughts?
