Hello Guy's,
I'm looking at my EGT's and it's hot in here. Towing 13K 5th. wheel with 180-75% is just too much. What is the best size of injectors to tow safely and still get up the hill. Real life advise is more then welcome.

I see you have a powermax turbo. It seems for heavy towing, that 155cc injectors are going to be your best bet unless you want to drop all the way back down to stock. What are your EGTs getting up to?

I would say probably 30% or even 50% nozzles. What speed are you at and what sort of incline are you at when you are reaching 1150? I wouldnt back out at 1150 per say to knock the EGTs back down. I would just hold it so they stayed right there. Just so you know you are fine with sustained 1150F EGTs. Its like 1250 and above sustained that you have to worry. You could also try (and is what I would try first before dropping coin on new injectors) a batmowheel for your turbo, a larger intercooler, and/or ported intake manifold like from gogo diesel or elite diesel as at least anyone of these if not more than one will certainly drop your EGTs 100F at least (some folks might think you wont get a 100F drop in EGTs with an intercooler but you most definitely should with a batmowheel or ported intake manifold). Oh yea you could also look to throw in some water meth. There are other options out there if you really like your injectors and want to try and keep them. JMO.

Oh ok, well that makes more sense now. Yea if you hit a decent grade you would have to most certainly back off.

I'm looking at a FICM right now and think to get a intercooler from Mike as well. Hope that Erick can help me out as well with an upgraded tow tune or something.
I never thought that my set-up get this hot with the 5th. wheel in tow.

Well what tune of Eric's are you running right now? I was under the assumption it was a tow tune. Also I'm not necessarily sure an intercooler is the best first choice for lowering EGTs. I would look more into either the ported intake manifold or batmowheel. I mean for $400 and pretty much a guaranteed 100F drop, isnt bad IMO. An intercooler is like $1250 or more and the ported intake manifold, which is what I think is needed regardless, is like $1200. I have only heard nothing but great things with guys who run a PM and doug's manifold with regards to spool up/throttle response and EGT control. Hope this helps.

Trying a new combo. 175cc with 100% nozzles. 62/65/70 and a s471/83/1.10 t6. Cruising at 2000rpm with 16 000lbs I hold 900degs and can't get it over 1200degs on hills holding 65mph. Setup has a BD intercooler, my modded intake manifold. Accufab elbow. Fass pump, innovative diesel street tune.

Another thing to look at down the road is maybe your gearing. At 60 mph with 3.73s your running 1750 rpm. With 4.10 gears you'll run closer to 2000rpm and these 6L love that extra couple rpm

What level of boost are you seeing when you are cruising at 2000rpms empty? I take it throttle response is pretty fast as well?

10-12psi while cruising. With the trailer around 20-25. At 2k there is no lag at all

How often are you towing? If I was towing that much weight with a single charger, I'd probably stick with stock injectors. If you only tow a couple times a year, I'd just keep the injectors and deal with it, maybe make a few improvements on the air side like already suggested, but most importantly work with a tuner to get a good towing tune setup that pulls some fuel out of it.

Can you not have the tunes revised? Seems they could alter the tune to pull fuel. People are towing with a stock turbo and 190cc injectors I believe. If it were me I would start at tuning. To me it seems it would be pretty expensive to re do the injectors. If the rcd modded powermax pans out it may also be a solution for adding a little air to keep the egts down if they are able to mod your existing turbo. But overall for towing/ dd complete package performance 2 turbos seems like the best way to go.
