Help! We came from arizona to Boston stranded here with several issues main one I can't seem to figure out... 1996 f350 7.3 5speed 156k
So started when it was cold 2 days ago let it idle and warm up pulled onto the road and it immediately acted as tho it had no gas pedal pump it a few times doesn't fix it, sounds like it wants to stall but doesnt, it eventually comes back. then happened again the next day after i drove for 1hour then went away now it's happening a lot more. It doesnt die and now it can rev but really slow and only up to 1200rpm. If it does it on the highway it will drop my speed to 45mph or less the i can hold the speed, then it goes away I can speed back up. . I thought maybe tps was starting to fail so I changed that didn't fix it. I cleaned the ivs and held it in with a screw driver while pushing pedal that didn't let it Rev, I'm assuming that would mean it is working?

The heat also went out for a few mins. Had to move the truck out of intersection when i started rolling it warmed back up. Haven't been able to check the radiator fluid yet Its sitting in a shop parking lot until tmrw

I'm also having a hissing noise down by my feet primarily when it's cold and I am lightly on the gas goes away when I let off the pedal.

Its very hard to start when cold haven't had a chance to test glow plugs yet.

Thanks for any help...

Drove it to hotel from shop (all they found was fuel filter was brand new and good fuel pressure) esterday no issues ran great even hit 45mph +no issues. Started it today let it warm up hit the gas rpms creep slowly up to 2500 and stop no power whatsoever let off gas has violent shake at idle. Let it sit a few mins later it's back to normal. Can't figure it out when it doesn't do it all the time have looked all over the Internet replaced tps checked icp (no oil in plug). At wits end don't want to sit around a hotel in Boston until our emergency appointment with the stealer ship on Thursday. Thanks for any advice or ideas

Could be junk in the fuel tank clogging the pickup screen. You replaced the CPS?

I thought about junk in the tank. Unfortunately I have 2 full tanks and no nice car jack to lower them or any other tool like that. I read the symptoms of cps failure they said it would sputter out and die. I'm walking distance from Napa so might go ahead and change the cps

I just know from my own experience to stay away from sensors, orings and relays at the stores go get oem ford. I've not had issues with cps,ipr or icp sensors. Why is it blowing out black smoke? Are you starting it on 140 race tune? Check turbo boost leak? I've heard on this forum and others about hpop oil could drop as it warms due to those sensors mentioned above.

I know there are sensors to watch out for ie blue and black cps sensor etc. I usually always try to get motorcaft parts. Light white smoke on start up but goes away. Completely stock. The turbo was inspecred by shop found it a little wet on both sides but said he didn't think it was bad. I was looking into the hpop as one of the possible causes of my cold start unfortunately being across the country have no friends to borrow a high pressure oil gauge to test. But even then why it would be so sparatic is really hard to pin point the issue. MAGNUMPD said maybe dirt in fuel tank sloshing around gets clogged on the pickup screens sometimes might make sense for being so intermitten with no code's thrown etc

Yeah still stuck in Allston right outside downtown Boston. Have a flatbed that sits up high might be able to pull pump put of tank check screen. Just gotta get another fuel line disconnect tool (hate being away from my tools)

Not sure how to add video but took a min long one. I can get it to act up if I hold it at 3k rpm. It's also blowing a lot of smoke now. Not sure how i add video on these fourms

I pulled the fuel pump out of the front tank didn't even see a screen on it. I took a pic of it. Doesn't look like any fuel pumps for this year truck with powerstroke. Makes no sense to me don't know if it had fallen into the tank or what.

Ok so new filter on top of engine. Anytime I have had a failed pump it goes out and it doesn't come back on so. Do I need to pull something off ie pump in valley and clean something or should I start replacing stuff fuel wise. O rings on injectors?
