@golfer-didnt you say there was a set of.conditions that make these trucks.smoke at idle.when cold? Mine.doesnt burn oil between changes but when its cold it has a slight bluish tint. It doesnt.smell like oil though. It is acrid and burns the eyes. Almost like a tuning parameter is off.

Sounds like worn out injectors to me

Oh, thats a definite possibility. In fact, I know they are worn. Truck runs.better than most but the injectors have over 250k on them. They wouldnt even be in there but the ones I planned to use were junk so I wanted to get the truck reassembled and make sure my new oil.and fuel.setups.were working before I threw my money around AGAIN.

38r? Check. Leaky center section? Dont think so. Turbo has maybe.10k on it. Been out of the truck twice. It did this before when it was cold.

What I'm getting at is the ccv to the atmosphere while running a 38r and the center section leaking
I think it was lincolnlocker saying his did this. Mine looked a little wet last time I looked is why I asked

Is this what you are referring too? http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31194

Main topic:
I too could only concluded the CCV, but not sure how it could purge that much oil through over and over. I know my cold side boot still "sweat" oil for weeks after my CCV was changed to atmosphere "dump" until I finally cleaned it out. Was still a good amount of puddle in there surprisingly.

That's why your getting bluish smoke at idle... my 38r hated the ccv being routed to atmo. Smoked non stop at idle till I routed the ccv backto the intake.

How? Im not real keen on blowing oil all over.the charger. That honestly doesnt make.any sense to me,lol.

I figured it was tuning related. And perhaps gp system too.

Slight vacuum being present in the intake tube rather than having to fight against atmospheric pressure would be my guess.

Might be time to route CCV to exhaust?

Pushing a lil oil through the seals. Try it routed back to the intake tube. If it clears up then you know its the culprit.. I did it on mine two or three times just to make sure it wasnt coincidence.

Jim, awhile back i managed to fill my intercooler with oil. Intermitenly it would smoke white like a train and then clear up then do it again and clear up. It was my fault as to why the intercooler was filled but it very well could be a turbo.

My buddy did a recent 6.0 overhaul and it kept blowing oil seals in the turbo, motor was freakishly putting out too much oil pressure. Food for thought i guess

Too much blowby to push through the mesh in the ccv box.... take your fill cap off and I bet it stops smoking within 10 seconds.... cracked all 8 pistons using water/ meth on the pull truck, blowby was the cause... pull the ccv box apart and take the mesh out. :)

thanks buddy, you're 100% correct... didn't mean to mislead anybody, blowby was the cause of the blue smoke/haze because enough blowby couldn't be pushed through the mesh.
