Is my trans shot?

Recently my 97 E4OD has randomly at times not wanted to downshift into first gear coming to a stop, can manually put it in first with no issues, in regular Drive it will take off in 2nd gear and sort of slam into the next, although if parked for even 5 minutes the issue seems to stop and it works and shifts properly. Driving / light towing around town temps are at 150, Full of fresh oil, possibly a connection issue somewhere?

Would it throw codes without a CEL or blinking O/D light? I’ll check regardless.

Yes it can have codes without a light showing.

Also, fluid condition? Have you changed it or flushed it lately?

The wire harness runs very close to the exhaust on the RR of the trans.

Would check those things first.

Fluid was changed less than a month ago along with a new filter, didn’t flush it just drained the pan, converter and blew out the cooler.
