Aight so some of you may have seen my thread about fuel pressure and fuel leaks, but essentially I am just sick of fuel leaks, and I think that my stock fuel pump is on its way out. I have replaced all of the orings and fuel lines at the fuel bowl, and built a fuel pressure gauge and tested my pump. I will post up a video of my fuel pressure when I get my phone to hook up to my computer. But anyway I would love to do a full E-fuel conversion, but unfortunately I don't have the funds right now.
So here is the solution I came up with, and I was wanting to get some feedback from you all to make sure I haven't missed some fundamental issue with trying a mod like this:
I want to use JoeDaddy's "tightwad mod" to mod my FPR so that I can put a new mechanical fuel pump (I can get it at my employee discount) and delete my fuel bowl. Here however is where I want to differ, instead of just placing a single filter/water separator between the low stage and high stage of the mechanical pump, I want to put both pre- and post-filters on the frame rail, inline between the tank selector valve and the fuel pump just as you would with a DIY E-fuel set up. That way when I have the money all I will have to do is buy a SD fuel pump and a fuel regulator (which seem to be the expensive parts) and hook/wire everything up. I also have access to a CNC machine, so I will be able to fab up the brackets to hold the pre/post filters (and eventually SD pump). So for the time being, I will just have my pre-filter feed into the post-filter. (a little redundant I know, but it will make things easier down the road I think) From there I will tie into the (new) mechanical pump using the factory line, and than just tie the low pressure outlet to the high pressure input on the pump. Then on the return side, I will just use JoeDaddy's mod to regulate the fuel back to the tank.
The question is, are there any major issues doing it this way? Has anybody tried this? And most importantly does anybody have an FPR to donate to the cause haha???? I realize I would be better off with straight up E-Fuel, but I just don't have the money right now, and while I have access to the machinery to make a sweet mounting system I would like to make everything so that eventually all I have to do is buy the rest of the stuff needed, and convert to E-Fuel.
Sorry so long, and thanks in advance,
Nick :ford:
