So I picked up a 1973 CJ5 and have slowly been showing her some love. Started with this,
It wasn’t treated bad just neglected for years but it was garage kept.
It has a small block 302 and holly 4 barrel carb, Dana 40’s and a 4” lift. It runs great except on steep incline hills the carb floods bad and causes problem right before the top of the hill. Gonna upgrade to a Holley 470 CFM Avenger which is set up with spring assist on the floats to keep from floating when on hills.
Then I will upgrade the radiator to and aluminum with heavy duty electric fans.
I’m trying to stay old school so no light bars for this one. I’m going with five 7” KC lights for the windshield mount and another 2 to mount on the hood at the bottom of the windshield along with upgrading the factory lights.
This is not a 100% restoration project. For now she is getting just a face lift and upgraded parts so I can enjoy trail rides. The long term plan will be to tear it down to the frame and do a full resto but that is years away lol too much going on in life to start that type of project.
This is where she is at now,
This is my first Jeep project so anyone with knowledge can chime in with things I need to address, fix or upgrade. Any critiques or suggestions are welcome.
