Keep My 2012 Or Upgrade

yet another reason I prefer the 5R

That's one of the reasons I'm leaning towards keeping my truck. As time goes on, I'm sure there will be many more choices for upgrades, just like there are for 6.0 and 6.4 trucks now. In another 2-3 years, there's no telling what advancements will be made to tuning, turbo options, etc.

Still though, I'd like to hear some more about what else I can do to the truck now. I'm NOT looking to set the world on fire with 700 hp, but it would be nice to pick up a little more power, and improve the overall driveability of the truck.

What experiences have people had with other tunes for the 2015 turbo/HPFP retrofits? Does anyone really have it 100% dialed in with MCC, or is S*partan going to be the way to go if I want an upgrade?

I'd be happy with a smoother transmission tune, (the H&S variant is so clunky). I REALLY like firm WOT shifts, but the H&S transmission tuning is unnecessarily harsh under part throttle shifts, especially when cold. A more responsive engine file would be nice too. Like I said, I don't need the most power, but something more fun to drive and less laggy would be nice.

I thought your already had all of the 15 goodies

I have a 2015 pump and a Streetmax 2015 turbo. My turbo is one of the original 64mm models before Morgan was adding the 360 thrust bearing. Sooner or later, I'll upgrade to the newer version of that turbo or go non-vgt.

I have thought about the same thing with my truck. But, like you its paid off and not having a truck payment sure is nice. Also to upgrade there would probably be about a 50K difference to get a 17 450, since I would upgrade to something heavier. Just don't think I want 50K worth of vehicle payments when I have other things to spend money too since my wife and I just did a full remodel on our house. If I came into a bunch of money, sure I would probably get a new one. But I like what I have and upgrades are a lot cheaper than a new truck, well depending on how far you go. The goal with my truck is the low - mid 600 range as well. I don't want to go duel fuelers or start replacing stuff in the bottom end

Ditto... Mine's not quite paid for yet, but close enough that the balance isn't a concern at all. Even with the miles, the truck still cleans up well, so I can't complain.

I don't want to deal with dual fuelers either... I want to get what I can out of the 2015 pump and leave it at that. Based on what I've seen, 600 or so is definitely attainable with good tuning and the right turbo. I actually want to get a transmission built for it, but I don't want to deal with lower end work on the engine. I can justify the cost of a built transmission to myself, but I can't justify the engine work for my power goals.

I'd love to try a different turbo... Nothing against what I'm running, but I just want something different. A 6670R would be cool albeit overkill for the amount of fuel I have on tap.

Same boat here...2012 with about 90K. I have been eying up the new Platinums but I only have a couple payments left and no payments would be a nice change. Truck hasn't given me any issues until recently and it ended up being a vacuum pump gasket leaking oil so no big deal. I don't think I have even had a warranty claim on this one. I'm thinking it's time to throw some money into the 2012. After my 6.0 experience I kept this one stock till recently but a new Streetmax and more fuel would be a nice next step for me.

to me it sounds like you would have a fancy new truck but be bored with the power levels. getting a 17 would mean waiting awhile before tuning and stuff is available. theyre still figuring out the 15 and 16 models from ive read. i would keep your truck and change it up a bit if youre bored. i always get bored when im about to be done paying for a vehicle, and i always say im going to keep it and enjoy not having payments but it never happens and i usually regret it a few payments in because its always more then i was paying before lol
