These 6.4L catastrophic failures, what was the cause(s)?
I have talked to a buddy and he said if you put the 6.0 rockers and push rods into the 6.4, there are less failures and becomes more reliable. The 6.0 Does flow more oil up top, this simple upgrade could make the truck last much longer.
Only HPFP failures I have seen have been from contamination or corrosion but never just a out and out failure from design alone.
Ok, catch me up on the 6.4, is it EGR and DPF or jus DPF? (i think both)
Same as 6.7,or jus DPF? Alot of manufacturers are getting away from the EGR and jus going with the SCR system. Its a proven system been used for years on the power plants. Europe has already figured this out. I know the 6.4 is the last engine international the fords had, that being said, Internatioal inducted 78% of recirculated gases back into the intake on the bigger engine. They have not had good luck. Not sure on the samller engine. Supposed to be and introduction of the 15L INTL. heavy truck enigne in 2010 have not launched it yet. Why going back to the drawing board? There are to many variables on what happened to that engine. Were did you get your last tank of fuel? How long are your trips? What is your oil change interval? Have you rodded the sh!t out of it? So many variables with the enigne and uses it cant be measured. I think its growing pains with the engine. Granted i have a 7.3 that i buy fuel from the same place and change the oil every 3500 mi. (usally hard pullin miles). Anyhting can happen. Todays enigne are bulit for the harassment but you have to take care of them. Feel free to correct me on anything.
Just get rid of all of it. DPF's and EGR's on a diesel are just as useless as tits on a bull
Those damn long haired tree hugging hippy love slaves!
I've heard of more turbo failures on the 6.7 then anything. Those turbos are so small and cute. It's like a magical fairy mouse lives in thereLOL
And this is why I will keep my dinosaur 7.3 forever and ever and ever.. But good reading here for sure.

poor maintenance, poor maintenance blah blah cracked this cracked that, melted this, melted that...all reverts back to "poor maintenance" what are we taling about here? Failures that are straight up the trucks fault because thats how much of POS's they are? Or failures because it was the d'bag owner(s) (fleet trucks also) that didnt take care of the damnn trucks. Im preeetyyy sure if you take care of a truck, it will take care of you. If you constantly push the limitations (stock or juiced out) youre bound to see issues. Period. My 03 just turned 152k and has been deleted and tuned since 135k. Stock, until now, the "worst" motor 6.0 has the original injectors, hpop, transmission, turbo, everything. Not a problem besides a FICM at 115k. She gets taken care of. My buddies 06 on the other hand that hes had only for a year, has the same tune as mine, has had 3 turbos, 3 injectors and he just smoked the transmission and has had blown HG for about 8 months now. People can sit there and say all they want to about these motors taking a crap. Its 90 percent the way its taken care of, 10% emissions related if you cant do anything about it. Just my 2c And I understand you can get a straight up lemon out of the lot just because that thing happens, but its rare. Just like the guy that said he hated his 6.7 had 5 turbos and whatnot. Ok, well, 5 turbos is quite a bit. WHat the hell was he doing with it number one. Number 2, what was causing this and what DIDNT the warranty shop do to make sure it didnt happen again. Theres alot of variables to something as out there as his truck got. There was a guy on here who has 400k on his 6.7 towing from Tx to ND 3 times a week and he has no issues. Im pretty sure it gets serviced the way its supposed to be, and whoever is doing it, is doing it right.

So whats everyone seeing on the 6.7's engines stock or mod??
I worked at a big Ford dealer in Fort Worth for almost 8 yrs before i just recently left and opened my own diesel repair and performance shop. In the dealerships out of 5 in the metroplex i know diesel guys and they are seeing the same results as me. Thats been..... ive seen my share of turbos shell and valves break on the 6.7 but it hasnt even been a fraction of what i have seem failures in the 6.4! So why im asking is ive been getting asked this question a lot lately by my customers when they see my 2012 6.7 sitting in the parking lot they reply "yep thats been the worst ford motor yet, they break more than the 6.0 and 6.4's!" im like wtf.
I want to see what other techs and shops are seeing with these 6.7s, "NOT" the my brothers cousin neighbors boss said kind of crap.
I special ordered my 2012 6.7 before i left Ford, it only had 3.2 miles on it when it got everything deleted and tuned. truck is not even a yr old yet and have almost 30k miles on it, i drive it harder than most(people on this fourm that know me can vouch for that), tow heavy, idle it all day. Ive had this truck to 120 mph dont know how many times, fastest recorded speed on it is 145 mph (stock wheels and tires tho). I will be in the world finals Oct 13th in this truck as well racing it! sorry for long write up.
