How did you put the knurling on it?

A knurling tool on the lathe.

Basically two wheels with grooves in them. One wheel has the grooves sloping up & right, the other has the grooves sloping up & left. Since they contact roughly the same area of the part, they make a criss-cross pattern that is the knurling.
It doesn't cut anything, it just pushes the metal around. It takes quite a bit of force to get a good knurl (might also be that the tool I used was dull), so it's pretty hard to knurl small parts unless you get one of the more expensive knurlers that grabs on both sides of the part:

I've found that even a good or new knurling tool takes quite a bit of pressure to do a good job. Been a loooong time since I got to play with a lathe though.

Lazt time I knurled was at least 5 years ago in college when I made a die handle. Even the cheap places wanted insane money for one, so I made my own. It turned out really good. I still have it somewhere, just haven't had to use it since then.

It must be a Canadian thing I agree. I've got 3 Chrome shops within 15 mins of my house. Winnipeg has a huge muscle car community. Probably the biggest in the country so chrome shops keep pretty busy around here.
