So here's the situation. I bought a 2004 CCSB 4x4 XL for my business. I put a quad pod on the pillar with Fuel pressure, EGT, boost, and HPOP pressure. I have Innovatives MODERATE FICM tune, and am running Erics med tow with jake function. My issue started about a month ago when the outside temps hit 100 degrees plus. Driving down the road hauling an 8000 lb trailer the EGT's just stay at 900, move your foot slightly or hit any grade ( even slight uphill ) and they jump to 1200-1300. Without spending any new money does anyone have any suggestions on reducing EGT's. I've tried different tunes, and the only one that makes a difference is the stock one, but the mileage drops about 2-3 while running stock. It's a work truck that several people drive and they have instructions to watch EGT's and back off over 1000 degrees but with only 100 degrees different, that doesn't leave much room. Is this just the nature of the beast?

What other tunes have you tried? How many miles on this truck, and do you know the history of it? Is it possible it has upgraded injectors?

Towing about 5k-6k, with my aggressive tow tune I literally have to work really hard at getting it above 1200. The only time I've done it, was flat foot, uphill, and the truck rocketed up to about 70mph, and I let off just under 1300*. I was already moving so fast I had to let off anyways. No FICM tuning though... Have you monkey'd with removing the FICM tuning? Turbo making good boost still?

Truck runs great, and I haven't monkey'd with the FICM. The one it came with melted down, and I'm going to Bulletproof for one of their modded 58v stock tuned FICM's. But that'll be a month down the road. Boost is good, I'm just afraid one of my retarded employees will melt the motor down if I don't get it controlled. temps have been north of 110 here lately and I'm noticing that the EGT's rise fast. We have several looooong hills here in AZ and everytime they take it out I wait for the dreaded call that they are broken down somewhere. The truck itself has 185K on the clock and it's not studded. I have the plan to get some studs and new HG's in August,,, if it makes it that long. But all in all, no complaints, just observations. The 900 degree normal driving has me a little leary. My heavily modded personal truck with the same load runs 750 degrees until you drop the hammer, and it'll jump up roughly to 1200. But I want the normal temps of the work truck to be there to.

How much power is the moderate ficm tune supposed to add? Then the tow file on top of that? Maybe too much tuning.

Kinda what I thought as well. I don't know how much power the FICM adds, Eric didn't really advertise it for power. I know the pedal responsiveness is much better. I had it sitting on the shelf for my continental build, and when the original one went tits up i didn't want to buy another stock one. Whats everyones opinion on the 900 degree cruising temp, too much?

That's what I would suggest, is take the FICM tuning off first.

900 sounds a little toasty I guess, on flat ground just cruising. 185k, if it's never been off I'd be that factory intake manifold is caked up pretty good too...

I don't know how much difference it makes on a 6.0, but what about some 4" or 5" exhaust and get rid of that cat? Liable to be good for a 100-150 degree drop at least...

Do you have an Egr delete ? Id start there and and work towards more air in and more air out. Intake and exhaust even just deleting the cat and muffler is a improvement if you dont have the cash for a turbo back system. Here is a quote form eric at IDP about egts "International recommends keeping EGTs below 1250 for an extended time, like when towing" Have you had the Vgt solenoid/system checked to see if its operating properly.

Up pipe leak is entirely possible, I don't know how to tell. As for EGR sytem, it's intact, but turned off through tuning. And No, I haven't even explored anything in the turbo,,,yet?

Hey guys, I really appreciate all the help you've thrown out. I just got back from driving from Phoenix to Lake Havasu, to Bullhead City, and Kingman then back to Phoenix. Right at 600 miles. Temps across the flats were as stated above,,, 900 degrees. I hit the big hill outside of Bullhead City and she topped out at 1350 before I backed out. I let them fall to about 1000 and held the pedal there doing about 55 mph to the top. After that it was mostly quick little hills and the temps stayed around 900-1000 at 85 MPH.

Put a race file in it if you have one and have somebody watch around the turbo for soot as you do a few snap tests.
I had a y pipe leak that did not leave any soot under the hood while moving but it would flow out from behind the turbo when I did the above test.....cruising empty on the flats on a calm 75* day I was seeing 800* constant with stock injectors.

Biggest thing is the ficm tuning. Adam noticed a 100-200 deg. increase after he tuned his when we were at php. Same trailer same weight on the way back too. I'd start with that. It's from the pulse width being opened up so the injectors can actually work.

I think you have a couple of contributing factors, the first being the combination of the FICM tune and the programming. I bet if you went with a stock FICM, your temps would drop.

The second that I see is your speed. Running 85 mph is working your motor hard. Stock size tires and stock gears?

How much boost are you seeing at 85 mph? When your EGT's climb to 1300*, how much boost? Just wondering if the turbo vanes might be a bit sticky.

IMO, the only way you can really avoid a potential issue when your employees are driving the truck is to take it back to stock programming.

Quick question, what were your temperatures stock, with the FICM Tune? What are your temperatures when you start and idle before driving away? I'm wondering if your gauge is possibly giving you falsely high readings. What are you running for a pyro and where is it installed?
