Looking for baseline #s, Lack of power, poor Mileage

Recently the truck has been lacking power and my mileage is horrible. Driving above 45mph feels like I’m driving into a 50mph head wind towing a trailer. I’ve done some searching and I can’t figure it out. Recently I drove from Columbus, GA to Atlanta Airport (103 miles each way) all highway and my mileage is down to 11mpg keeping it at 65. Normally I would get 17-18mpg. My idle is a little rougher and I feel a slight hesitation/skip when parked. Other people don’t hear it or feel it, I get the “ it’s a diesel, they all are that rough”. I’ve had this truck for 10 years, I know how it’s supposed to sound.
For some background info; the truck is a 2000 with 275k, 3.73 gears, 265/70/17 Mickey Thompson MTZs, 4” exhaust, original transmission, and is back to STOCK Programing.

I’ve already checked the brakes to see if they are dragging, pressure tested the cac system. Checked the trans for slipping through Auto Enginuity and I haven’t found anything.

So today I collected some data through my Edge Insight and this is what I have.
Idle in park:
EGT: 350*
ICP: 480 psi
IPR: 10.2%

0-50mph holding at 2,000 RPM
MAP: 4-5 psi
EGT: 770-800*
ICP: 1800-1900 psi
IPR: 28-29%

60 MPH constant:
MAP: 2-3 psi
EGT: 600*
ICP: 1330-1340 psi
IPR: 22.3%

0-60 foot to the floor:
Max MAP: 14 psi
Max EGT: 1100*
Max ICP: 2800 psi
Max IPR: 39.6%

I’m trying to find out if these #s look normal. What are the baseline #s for ICP and IPR? As soon as I get some time I’ll log some data with AE. But what else should I be looking at?

Oh yeah fuel pressure can make a big difference. I installed a fuel lab pump on my Excursion (still stock injectors). Wow what a difference.

Those numbers all look good and normal except MAP. MAP should be around 14.7 at sea level with KOEO. Do you mean MGP (Manifold Gauge Pressure)? MGP is boost, since is it MAP minus BARO.

14 psi of boost is low, even in a stock tune. I would check for boost leaks and check to make sure the wastegate is properly adjusted.

Checking fuel pressure would be a good idea too.

Justin, I did mean MGP/boost pressure, but I took those readings through the MAP sensor. I’ve been told by several people that boost #’s through the MAP tend to be low compared to a manual gauge. I haven’t confirmed that, but will one of these days.

I’ve checked for boost leaks. I pressurized the cac system to 25 psi. Any more than 25 psi my homemade cap blows off the intake hose. I felt for leaks then blew some cigar smoke around the boots and didn’t see anything. I checked the up pipes as well as I could with a mirror. I’m not seeing any soot on the firewall or on the pipes themselves. I’m not getting any play out of the turbo either.

About 8 months ago the truck was hazing at idle. I did some testing then and couldn’t find anything besides fuel pressure being a bit low at 42psi after the filter. I had a can of sea foam laying around so I dropped it in, stopped going to my usual place where I get fuel, and changed the fuel filter Even though the filter was only a couple months old. I haven’t noticed any haze sense.

My fuel pressure test when I had the hazing problem:

I checked the fuel pressure a couple days ago and now its right where it should be, 62-65 psi. At full throttle up a steep grade it will drop to 58psi momentarily. I'll post a video of fuel pressure hopefully tomorrow.

BTW How do I get a youtube video to embed instead of a link? Before it would do it automatically

Had a similar issue caused by my throttle pedal. Do you feel any "flat spots". You can catch it with a a good dvom.

I caught mine with a meter. no code.

Put a Dorman sensor in and it ran likecrap, smoked with sluggish response. Put a Ford sensor in and what a difference.

I can feel/hear when the ebpv opens but cant be sure its opening all the way. I'm thinking my next step is to pull the turbo, gut the ebpv, get a better look at the up pipes and adjust/replace the WG.

I cleaned the ebpv tube about a year ago. it was clogged up but didnt notice a difference after I cleaned it. I have a new tube and a used but clean looking sensor to put on. I'll likely get a new sensor though.

I thought about the tps as well. Monitoring the throttle % I've noticed that I could be 3/4 tilt into the throttle and its only showing 3x%. With throttle to the floor is only showing 70-80%. I'll look into it further

Okay, sounds like you are free of any boost leaks. I would tie the wastegate shut and see if it makes a difference. I see just as many wastegate issues as I do boost leaks.
