Hi guys

I am 18 and I'm looking to buy a powerstroke. I've been doing some research on them but still need more input. If you could post some suggestion on what I should get for my first powerstroke I would really appreciate it. Anything will help.

Thanks,
Cole

I think I nice bullet proofed 6.0 would do you good. Or a clean 7.3.

I mean it really depends on your budget, plans, and how long you'd like to keep it. Honestly a 6.7 would be best but hard to swing at a young age.

Don't be scared of the 6.0's, they are coming down in price and you can find a nice clean bulletproofed truck for a reasonable price. I've always been a 7.3 guy and you can't go wrong picking up a clean 7.3 and running the wheels off it. I would advise staying away from the 6.4 unless you have some deep pockets, many guys have no problems with them but if something should go wrong it's usually big money to fix.

It all boils down to your budget and what you need out of the truck.

The hate of the 6.4 is strong. Just like it use to be for the 6.0. I personally love my 6.4. I have a studded/tuned 6.0, a tuned 7.3 and a 6.4 and I drive my ZF6/ 6.4 every day of the week over the others.

However for a first diesel I would say find yourself a nice low mileage studded, deleted 6.0. The 7.3 values are way high right now due to everyone wanting to find a low mileage 7.3. I picked up my 2005 CCLB 6.0 at the beginning of the year for a great price with 60K miles on it lariat, studded, lifted, etc where I couldn't touch a 7.3 of the same caliber for even 2-3K of what I paid..

7.3. Put a better air filter. Fix any any leaks. And leave it stock. Being 18. Even if you floor it everytime, it'll live.

It's not so much hating on the 6.4. I really liked driving mine, power was great, truck rode awesome, and the creature comforts were nice. It was just wondering if it was my turn for something to happen and figuring out how to foot a 10k rebuild.

Hard to go wrong with a decent OBS. Picked up my 97 CCSB for 4k 3 years ago with 278k miles. Done nothing to it besides a vaccuum pump. The most money I've thrown at it was for my 06 axle swap. I'd try for a F350 to avoid TTB problems. But I swapped in my 06 stuff for about $1,000.

I'll buy a 6.7 in about 5 years LOL

I hear you. That's an issue with any vehicle though, some just cost a bit more. I've owned some pretty heavily modded stangs and my share of powerstrokes. Its just one of those things "you pay to play". Hell a stud job on a 6.0 would break most peoples bank. Here in Vegas 2 known shops are between 45-5500 out the door which i've always dreaded having happen. Luckily my trucks aren't used for work, towing or beating. I have always had stangs to go out and speed in from time to time.

it really will depend on what your budget is.. next is it going to be a workhorse or a douchehorse? just a nice daily driver? a lot will come into play when asking for input.. maybe be more specific on what you're asking too..

Wtf is a douchehorse? Lmao

For a working 18 year old buying their own truck I would vote 6.0 already studded, just make sure the owner knows what shop did it and look into that shop. If they did it right it'll be deleted with a new oil cooler and all the hpo goodies, should make for a reliable truck.

7.3's around me never seem worth the money but if you can find one clean for a decent price you can't go wrong, will probably keep you out of trouble too because they're slow af.

That's just a douchebag, isn't the trucks fault lol.

When I was 18 with a 7.3 all I could afford was a tuner. Tune only they are slow, doesn't mean I wasn't melting the tires off it and playing gymkhana in the rain anyway.
