Looking for turbo suggestions

175/30 or 190/30 with a Kc stage 1.5 sounds like what you are looking for. 1200 isn't bad if it isn't there too long and with the tuning and everything it goes between 1150 and 1200 which Charlie at kc told me isn't bad. I freaked out about it when I first saw it around those temps but I was also pulling some pretty good size hills and it was 100+ outside in the middle of summer in west Texas. Get with Charlie from kc turbos and tell him what is going on and what you want and he will point you in the right direction. my truck after the new transmission with 305/55 was at 2200-2300rpm at 70.

These trucks are made to tow at 1200 egts all day long. You won't hurt anything there. Obviously lower egts are great... but 1200 won't hurt anything as long as EOT and ECT stay in check.

The bigger the turbo... the less it is going to like towing under 2000rpms. Depending on tire size and gears, 65mph in OD is going to be 1700-1800rpms. Bigger turbos are not going to like to tow down at those rpms.

A smaller turbo will do better... but either way these trucks are not made to be pushed hard at 1800rpms. Look at a dyno graph and you will see that these trucks are making the most power and running the best when being pushed around 2500-2800rpms. No one wants to sit at those rpms all day long, but when pulling a hill that is to be expected.

Compounds are definitely the best way to go IMO if you have a big pocket book.


Stock injectors with a stage 3 turbo is pointless. You don't have enough fuel to take advantage of the top end power. So you get the laggy/hot bottom end, with no extra top end power.

205/30 and KC stage 3 or s364.5 will get you right around 600hp. I would suggest getting a lot of supporting air mods to help cool it down and realize you are going to spend a lot of time above 2500rpms while towing heavy. Those turbos get really lazy around 1800-2000rpms and will run hot towing.

It's got a CAI, banks intercooler, what else is there? Intake manifold? Would a 364 non vgt be better for my application? I had a 366 on my 6.4 and couldn't really tow with it either.

The s364.5 and KC stage 3 are going to run very similar. I have ran them back to back and the stage 3 spools up a little better down low off the line. The s364.5 made 2hp more on the dyno (basically the same power throughout most of the rpm band). Both turbos ran a little hot down low, but the s364.5 does run a little cooler up top.

For me there is no contest. I would run the stage 3 all day long and never look back. The s364.5 is a little lazy for me. But i know others that would run the s364.5 and hate VGT turbos (especially the whistle). It is going to come down to personal preference.

The KC stage 3 taps out around 650-700hp on fuel only. You need at least 205/75 to do that. I just laid down about 690hp with 250/100 hybrids, but I have a lot of fuel left over.

One of my favorite setups was 205/30 and KC stage 3. I was making about 630hp, still towed well if I kept the rpms up. Ran SUPER clean, spooled fast and was a blast to drive.

I know guys that tow with an s468 and 250/100s. ANYTHING is possible. But the bigger nozzles will make it harder



That setup in the video was 205/30, KC stage 3, csf 6028 intercooler, Odawg ported intake manifold, and a few other things. Truck rips and runs clean.

You would not want 190 hybrids... no point. The reason for hybrids is to hold ICP with larger injectors. (larger than 205cc)

190/100 conventionals would be around 600-625hp... but there is really no need for a 100% nozzle on a 190cc injector body. Go with 190/75 or 190/30 if you are going to stay that small.

If you answer yes to most of these question along with towing heavy then more then likely you will need to stay around 175/30-205/30 or your will be misreable. These are the questions Charlie asked me when I first started my set up and like you I came to Charlie wanting 600-650hp but didn't want to give up my ability to tow whatever I desired so I could get to the next job, and get helped me pick out the setup I have now and I couldn't be more happy with it. I might step up to the kc Stage 3 but stay at my 190/30 injectors so I can still tow.

I tow every weekend in the winter months (Ice Castle), maybe 8k lbs but it tows hard, as it's a 8x26 wind sail. Max elevation is about 1800 feet, no steep grades.

Hopefully Charlie will chime in especially if I'm wrong but I think he tows a good amount of weight with the 205/30 and stage 3 at elevation with some steep grades but keeps OD locked out through, and still makes north of 600.
