It will slow shear down but the rate is the same. Example if 1 gallon shears in 1k miles and you increase volume to 2 gallons and it shears in 2k miles then you haven't done much. If the guy is happy with it then so be it.
Your right, the shear rate doesn't change unless you are calling for more oil (hotter tunes, bigger injectors, etc.). Thanks for straightening me out if that's how I stated it above. It does change the rate in which the system fluid is sheared to a 30wt. I would argue that for anyone that doesn't care to change their oil very frequently then it could be value added.
