I have been wanting to get a php hydra or some gearhead tunes. But everyone were im form claim that the motor will not last as long and the tunes tear them up. I try to tell them the opposite haha. I even had a ford mechnic tell me that. So my question is how many miles have you guys put on your 7.3L with them tuned?. Also is their any prove that it affects the motors life span? I sure it does if you drive everywhere with your foot to the floor hahah. Thanks Hunter

If you have PMR's I would not tune it, or if you do run with something mild imo.
My truck is a 2002 so i would say it has pmr. I was Just gonna go with gearhead tunes or the php hydra. I have heard their tunes are good for pmr

My wife's 2002 has had the usual intake/exhaust/chip/gauges combination in it for over 150K miles - no chip related or mechanical issues at all. PHP tuning.

My 2000 has had at least a chip in it for almost 200K miles, no chip related issues. I recently did a compression test and all is very healthy. DP, PHP, and now Gearhead tuning -on a PHP Hydra chip.

No worries. Drive according to the gauges.

brand of motor oil will have more effect on longevity than a mild tune. I see trucks on a daily basis that have been tuned for hundreds of thousands of miles. get a nice tow tune and have no worries. you will look back in time and wonder why you had not done it sooner!

I have almost 100K with an H2E, Adrenaline and 250/200 single shots. Over 140 with at least a chip. At 335K, she is still running strong.

You've got it--The motor wont care about a tuner if you dont beat on it all the time. 95+% mine just rolls down the road like a stocker. The other 5% or less, well... lets say it has to work a little harder.

The biggest issue you'll have with tuning is keeping the transmission happy, but the above still applies.

Don't see how any specific tuner will effect PMR's as long as your below a certain power level. Think safe is 450.

its all in the timing......if you through tons of timing at it the cyl pressure will be so high it will litteraly pound the pmrs to breaking point. even at 310hp.... now do you see?

Not saying anything against Gearhead, I'm actually going to order tunes from him soon.

don't know what specificly each tuner does to the timing. but it is an easy way to increase power especially at lower rpms. but it comes at a cost. I was just stating how a specific tuner could be bad for pmrs...and any engine in general realy if they get to aggressive down low in the rpms...I like gearhead as well. I also love php tunes. and have both at the moment. im gonna try out nltd as well

Almost all my trucks have been running programs, chips, bigger turbos, injectors, etc since 2002. Some have 400k, some 200k.

My only problem has been cracked pistons at 242k because a Dumas friend pegged the pyro at 1600 while towing, and on the phone not watching. Truck started losing power.

That truck had been tortured most of its life.

Always, drive careful until engine is at operating temp, keep an eye on the guages, I try not to let Pyro go over 1250 for more than 20 seconds at a time, except for racing. I've found that's the only time I'm gambling with the motor.

PMRs break when lugging motor in OD, like towing and passing, climbing hill. best to let motor spin, less stress.

Chip the sucker, after you install a pyro.

I think you will pleasantly surprised with Gearhead's. I've run quite a few on my set-up and Matt is always more than happy to assist and usually responds quickly to any questions that arise , the tunes make the truck the quietest out of the 4 run on it , no need for boost foolers , and pretty clean tunes.
