Necessary to drain coolant for a Sinister coolant filter kit?

I've had a Sinister coolant filter kit sitting in my garage for a few weeks while I read up on the install. The instructions state to drain the radiator but, I also see online videos stating to only drain a gallon. I'm also finding many posts on the forums stating not to drain any and to just have a rag under the heater hose to catch whatever comes out of it when you make your cuts. For those that have done it, can I get away with just a rag or do I need to drain some or all of the coolant out??

Thanks - Todd

When I installed mine, I only drained what flowed out as I installed the line to the water pump. Of course your 6L install may be different

I just went quick with the tee install to not have too much leak out. Loosen the cap to release any pressure, then fully reinstall the cap, so no air will enter and allow it to drain faster.
