Initial start up of the new motor. Ran good was getting air out of the lines. Complete LP fuel system is new.
Started idling strange and spitting white smoke.
Shut it down checked some things started back up idles good.
Put it in gear to back out Revs to 2k and drops to normal and starts smoking again. Put it in park does it again.

Thoughts on what could be going on

do you have an IDS or similar where you can watch power balance and kill injectors?

sounds like injector(s) to me

did you install new injectors or anything like that?

What its doing is seeng a power balance problem and adding fuel untill finally it will shut that one cylinder off. IF you let it run long enough you will get a misfire code. So i would let it run a little longer and see if you can find out whats going on. But it sounds to me like you might have a bad injector or a nozzle

was the truck down for awhile? I have seen the injectors for whatever reason take a dump if the motor sits torn apart for a couple weeks. Pintles get stuck, must have a little moisture in them or something. I have actually heard of 2 full sents not even work at all after a rebuild like that.

Are you also sure that all the glow plugs are in tight? A slight cylinder leak could cause a similar issue but i would think you would have many more problems.

All the glow plugs were torqued in to spec. Motor was apart for about 8 weeks. Injectors were out and wrapped up in a climate controlled area.

well unfortunatly your going to have to narrow down what cylinder it is for sure. Either a power balance test with IDS or auto enginuities or let it get bad enough to throw a code. But the next step once you find that will be to swap in a new injector. Or swap from one cylinder to the other and see if it follows the injector. There is always a possiblility that you have low compression on the one cylinder from say a bad valve job or a pushtube not seated correctly ect.

you would think you would hear something for sure. If the leak isnt terrible it wont do it right away.

My guess is a valve sticking in hpfp. Start truck and hook up your tuner or whatever you have that will clear codes and hit clear codes. See if it starts idling normal even if it doesn't show any codes.

My guess is a plunger sticking in hpfp. Start truck and hook up your tuner or whatever you have that will clear codes and hit clear codes. See if it starts idling normal even if it doesn't show any codes.

why would that do anything? All that would do is make for low rail pressure hard starting ect. Obviously it will take the injectors out if the metal gets in the system but even down 1 plunger you would never know untill a WOT run logging PW and pressure. The injectors are what controls that fuel in the cylinders.
