Hey yall so i stopped at the local diesel shop to get a quote for getting my manifold and uppipes replaced. I just dont have the tools on base to do this myself. So he says that the manifold bolts are most likely going to break in the head and that if that happened the motor would have to come out and sent to a machine shop to get the bolts out. I was thinking instead of all this just replace the whole motor. are the black mambas all they are talked up to be? whats the limits on tuning them and adding goodies?

Find a new shop to bring your truck to. More then lickly you will have a few break but you should be able to get them out.

Most of the time the rear ones are already broken. Once the manifold is off then they can be removed pretty easily with a stud remover.

I did mine and 5 broke. Once the manifolds were off the studs came out fairly easy. The motor had 356k hard miles on it too

The studs break because they are siezed in the manifold, not the head, generally.
Once the manifold is off, the stud will spin right out of the head. If you have an oxy-acetylene torch available on base, and some time, you can do it yourself.

A torch will go a long way. Rounded the heads off a few of mine and some vise grips and heat they came right out. Whoever told u the motor needed to be pulled is a jakass
