Hey everyone looking for some help or advice.

Just got my hands on a 7.3 w/ 230k seems like its running strong. Its currently off the road for some cosmetic repair.

While its sitting there should I do anything to the motor to help prevent anything from happening later on down the road?
What's common to let go on these?

Thanks for the help

is it bone stock?

things that go wrong- depends on po and how it was drove its entire life. if it was taken care of then about the only thing to go bad is orings.

if it was not taken care of then it prolly needs icp, and ebpv sensors along with injectors and hpop, fuel pump and more than likely every bushing on the drive train.

It is bone stock. I'm planning on doing the bushings, a turbo rebuild, o-rings, icp. It does need a hydroboost unit with master.
Hopefully it won't need a hpop and fuel pump.

Why are you doing these things?

Turbo Rebuild? If its not broke, dont fix it.
What orings? Fuel orings are recommended.
ICP? Is it bad? If not... again, just leave it.

If its running strong probably wont need an hpop. A fuel pump isnt something to fear. Only $150, and its an inline pump. Easy peasy

The only time you need to look into anything on a 7.3 it when adding performance parts.. Just be sure to do the supporting mods and you will be golden.. What year ?

And it's leaking oil from somewhere in the top valley so I was going to pull turbo and pedestal and replace those gaskets as well as injector o rings

as stated, if it aint broke dont fix it.. I would put it on a scanner and see how well everything is performing. hpop psi, icp dc, and a few other parameters.. the turbo is oring sealed to the pedestal and same from pedestal to block. I would hose the top of the engine down with oil eater or purple power and brake cleaner and see just where it is leaking.. it can be many many places on top of a 7.3. I think golfer(dave from swamps) said there are 22 orings on top of the motor... most typical plqce is the ebpv rod where it slides in and out of the pedestal. at that mileage it could be anywhere though.

how do you know you need a icp sensor for sure?

In the valley the oily stuff is a pain to get cleaned get 3-5 cans of brake cleaner and a great supply of comp air set it at 20-35 PSI max to start then slowly gain pressure to avoid damage I would say 50 psi at the most. Most of that is crankcase blow by and sucks to clean I am on can 3 and still trying. Before you pull anything clean most of the stuff and try to pin point the origin of the leak poss get some oil dye (traceline @ summit has a good deal ATM) Change the fluids. It is best not to *** with stuff if it is not broke yet because it ends up broke pretty damn quick like most have said it has 230k it has some age and hiccups clean her up you will find it quicker and for a lot less to repair in the end. Try speaking with TARM, Golfer(Dave@Swamps Diesel) and a few others.

Check your cam sensor, Exhaust back pressure sensor and tube and basic millage maint. stuff good luck and welcome.
