When I removed my molding, it took paint down to metal I. A couple spots. You could see where the paint had bubbled behind the molding.

Yeah the more I think about it the more I am just going to leave it on. The truck isn't completely black and neither are the wheels. The chrome molding kinda accents the machine in the wheels

Did all that stuff on my older truck and did like the look. I did have some paint flake off when removing the original fender badges though. I probably will decide soon.
