I have a friend with an issuse on his 7.3 with a swamps chip. It is a 350 srw with a 6 speed. The engine has 20000 on t with stage1 injectors from hypermax and is bored .020 over. We put a swamps chip in it with the 140 tune and a 25 and 75hp. It makes 20 psi of boost but when he shifts 2 5th gear it falls on its face until it gets 2 2500rpm. I work mostly on stock 7.3 at work and done a few with swamps injectors and chips and they run great but this truck has me lost. oh it has a full 4inch exhaust with cold air intake

Call Swamps, they'll get you fixed up. It's probably something wrong with the chip. Does it do this in every tune or just a particular one? Are you sure it has swamps tunes on it, because none of their tuning is labled by a HP rating?

Im sorry its a TS i got the paper for it off him and it does it on all the tunes.

same just a dawg 1st - 4th are good once you hit 5th the turbo changes complete sound and it runs poor. As long as the truck is kept over 2500 its runs good just sluggish. The truck has a wicked wheel on it since its a 01. With the ts on it only makes 20psi of boost and I cant hear a charge air leak

well thats were im lost. the injectors arent that old. it doesnt sound like it has a miss or small miss. The truck has 3.73 gears with 37s on it. It weights 8800 lbs but I canseem to think it would be the weight. I found the link for the fuel presure check for the fitting size. I will check this week and see what it turns up.

it gets a small vibration when you smash the throttle to the floor, kind of like a u joint vibration but then it clears up after boost picks up. runs at 1300 when it makes boost and at high r's and there is no smoke hardly any on the 140 tune. there are no codes for overboost either

Sounds like boost leak. Old fuel filter/clogged FPR screen?

up pipes have no leaks and I havent went and checked with compressed air yet for leaks, it pulls hard 1-4 but when in 5th gear it drops and fuel filter was changed about 2000 miles ago.

SO you have a chip with tunes on it that were not specifically made for the injectors you had put in it? Do you have any idea what the specs were for the tunes on the chip?

In any of the gears is the engine a sluggish until it gets up to 2500. In the lower gears you just may not notice it as much as the gearing is allowing faster rise to the rpms in relation to mph.

Beyond getting proper tunes if that is possibly the cause. I would make a boost tester and test your system for leaks. If I had to bet I would say over 50% of the 7.3s out there have some sort of leak.

The chip is for a stock injectored truck which is what the truck runs like. The engine runs strong in all the gears and pulls hard until 5th gear and then it gets very sluggish.I have changed 2 boost boots so far on the CA side. What does a 7.3 with 140 tune run for boost shold be around 30 his truck seems to be right around 20-24psi. I will be checking for boost leaks towards the weekend I have the pieces at work just need to get there

I thought you said the truck has hypermax injectors cause that is not stock.

The issue in 5th gear is this with WOT run or anytime you hit 5th and it falls on its face?

The boost it should have is also dependent on the tunes. Does it have a boost-fooler as those pressure will trip a boost code. Honestly you do not want a stock turbo to go over 25 psi boost. Its not gonna get you any more power and the drive pressure will be thru the roof.

I would still check for boost and drive side leaks as it seems most have them to some degree. But I do not see how a boost leak is only effecting 5th gear.

Yes it has hypermax injectors that are just slightly bigger than stock he gave me the paper work on the injectors and the paper says under the right circumstances you may see 50hp increase. 5th gear is the only gear it will not hold 5th up hill on its own weight let alone. I agree with the turbo over 25psi. The boost fooler is a no but there is no codes on the truck. I have a regulator at work from a tag axle I am going rig up for the truck and try to see what happens.

If it's not tuned for those injectors, you should actually be OVER fueling/boosting... gotta be boost. Just stick a leak down checker on it, boost to 30psi, and see what happens.

this sounds exactly like a HPOil problem...(not a pump..but a HPOil system problem)...

can you monitor ICP pressure
and IPR% WHILE it noses over and doesn't go anywhere?

If the Hypermax injs are still splits...then they are (with 99% certainty)...a stock injector with a slightly larger nozzle...no increase in cc's...

so the chip should be fine with those...as there is really no one (that I know of) that tunes for splits with bigger nozzles

they are splits and I have a solus ultra at work i am able to use.your thinking a bad sensor possibly
