Hey guys,

Can anyone please help me out and possibly get me an oasis/Carfax report for a 08' 6.4 with 150k miles I'm looking to purchase within the next week.

Just some info on the truck as it is now, guy purchased it with a blown head-gasket and got the truck bullet-proofed by a reputable shop that has done plenty of 6.4's:

Truck has new OEM ford heads, gaskets, new rockers, push-rods were checked, new oil-cooler, ARP head-studs, up-pipes, turbos have been rebuilt, moshimoto radiator, trans is built, no emission restrictive equipment it has been ******d, SCT tuner, straight piped, cold air-intake. All fluids flushed and replaced

Not sure if the blown head gasket would show up on the report but I'm inclined to think that this motor should be pretty reliable going forward, don't you think?

VIN IS 1FTSW21R68EB12297

Thanks in advance guys!

Thank you for that, looks like the truck was in one time to get all of the above things done at once, nothing major either. From what I can tell it looks pretty clean?

no telling this only tells me what was done under warranty but it dosn't look like it was a problem child

Yea for sure, assuming the warranty ran to 100k it looks like it had minor issues labeling it a "lemon". Other then the fact that he bought it with a blown head and went the extra mile to fix it and bulletproof it. Makes me feel better about what I'm getting myself into. I've seen other reports with numerous issues being fixed under warranty that can be labeled as a "problem child".

I have read the reasons why they fail, but in my description above does the work done to the truck not a-quit for most of the issues that cause the truck to fail in the first place (its not a stock motor it has had work done to it and ******d)? 6.7's are to expensive I want a paid off truck and the 6.0's interior are out dated for numerous reasons.

no telling when one will eat a lifter, crap out a hpfp or crack a piston. horribly unreliable if you ask me.

besides, older six sevens are coming down in price and are way more reliable. i have a 2012 in the classifieds i am willing to take offers on.

I hear ya on that, but are those issues more common then the majority of the reported failures (in this case the head, which is now new)? I'm not a pro on diesels besides the research I have found over the last couple months. The work done to this truck would make it seem like it had new life in it if maintained properly. The normal issues have been addressed and upgraded (is what I'm trying to say)

Yes, it sounds like the current owner has addressed and tried to prevent future issues...the problem with 6.4's is the bottom end of the motor...of you drive it in a "stock" or close to it tune, and with some common sense, problems should be minimal...but as sootie said, when something goes it gets expensive real quick. Unfortunately more often than not the engine isn't rebuild-able and you have to find something that is or start with a new block. They only made them 3 years so the numbers aren't there to keep costs down...6.4's aren't known for their "years of trouble free service" for us that have owned them or worked on them

Op. as these guys have stated, your best bet is to stay away from a 6.4... lots of issues can arise, and it's very expensive to fix.

Looking at an older 6.0 or a 6.7 is you best bet.

Even on a truck that has a brand new bottom end (short block), top end checked with new rockers, push rods, new hpfp, oil cooler, magnafluxed heads (basically emission free since it was started). This would still be something to stay away from?

Unfortunately, anything could happen. Cracked pistons and a host of other things can still go wrong..
