if the engine was replaced then you can look at the valve cover an see what year the engine was made (assuming that it's not the same year on the VIN tag.)
and if the odometer says 100xxx or whatever he's sayin the new engine has then you know its been changed unless he kept the old computer.
BUT you should check to see if there's receipts. at least for the purchase of the engine and trans cuz if they're printed properly the current mileage should be on the receipts assuming they came from somewhere other than CL or junk yard...

if an auto trans to manual trans swap or vise versa is done most guys change the computer too, all i was saying was that was a possibility.
and i don't think mileage in the cluster. if you get a different cluster, say one with 120k on it, but your truck has 200k. everyone would be switchin them out to sell the truck and get more money out of it. not only that but there's videos all over youtube of guys changing the clusters in the obs ford's and their mileage stays the same. how would the cluster save the mileage anyway?

Mileage is stored in the cluster, despite what you want to believe. There is a computer module built into the speedometer called a Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module, AKA PSOM and that is where the mileage is stored.
