oil cooler or worse?

E99 with 60K miles= Blown. The Options?
next post will have pics of various blocks that have cracked at the cam/mains

but an oil cooler failure can't put coolant or oil into a cylinder.

Had the oil cooler failed, that cooler is containing two fluids. One is engine oil which is typically 20-60psi (dep on temp/rpm)...the other is coolant, which is max of 15-16psi.

so....if the oil cooler ruptures internally, all the high(er) psi oil goes straight into the cooling system, as the oil pressure will overcome the lower coolant pressure.

we can go back & forth with a million one-off scenarios of what if...what if...but in reality, the block cracked at the core shift casting line near the cam journals (see next post)...and then every unsupported reciprocating component (cam/crank/rods) went to eating itself up, and pushing bearings out.

This is from golfer from swamps over on psn. The pics didn't come with the quote. I'll try and get them.

The truck still ran so I'm kind of hesitant to say my block would be that bad but hey you never know. I'm just thinking with the way my oil looked exactly like golfer described the gray sludge in that link that I got something more serious going on. Not to mention im sure none of my bearings are very happy about it. Even it was the front cover leaking into the cc I'm thinking it may be best to play it safe and either rebuild or get another long block to swap my parts into.

But the coolant pressure can stay built up for awhile after the engine is off. That's all I'm saying.
You don't really need the oil and coolant for the compression and leak down test.

Snagged the fittings and adapter to make a compression tester today hopefully get that done after work tomorrow. At least it will give me an idea of what I'm dealing with

Ok this might be a dumb question but doing my compression test I rigged up the harbor freight kit and the gauge just bounces doing the test I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing to keep pressure at the gauge

Ok I didn't realize there was a quick connect fitting with 1/8 pipe thread in the kit. Guess I was too many beers in when I could get it rigged up.

Anyway just did a compression test and #5 was the highest reading at 350. All the others were 300-320 so guess I'll move to a leak down test and see what happens.

Ok I know it's been a while but u finally got a chance to pull my motor and get a look at it. This was cylinder number 8, there was also a good bit of water in my exhaust manifold on that side. This was the only cylinder that had water sitting in it like that. From I found so far it looks like someone did a half azz job sealing the front cover and that's what the gob of silicone was in my oil cooler. I didn't get a chance to pull the crank and cam yet to check for any block fractures in that area.

Well no block fractures and no visible cracks or anything abnormal with the heads. Any other suggestions to look at? I was hoping to find something a little more obvious

Crack or fracture might not be visible? My block and heads are at machine shop now getting magna-fluxed to ensure nothing is wrong before i put it back together. I would do that, its cheap insurance.

A crack could also open up under cylinder pressure, but if that were the case, i would think it would blow a hole in the cylinder wall due to so much pressure.
