well it appears that my truck has developed a small oil leak where the bedplate and engine block are mated together. small enough to where it doesnt leave a drop of oil after parking overnight on concrete, but i can crawl under it and there will be a small amount developed on the transmission bell housing and on the starter. it is only wet right where the bedplate and block meet. not running from a higher place and it appears to be worse towards the rear of the engine. should i just leave it alone for the time being? is this a warranty repair, although my truck has enough done to it that they would frown upon warrantying it even though it has 95k on it. i have most parts that i could put back on it. i assume that its a pretty lengthy repair considering the cab and engine have to be pulled and since its going to be out might as well do an extensive list of other upgrades. just curious on what everybody's thoughts might be....

thanks

That repair sucks to do. Big time.

I would return as much of the truck to stock as possible and get it repaired under warranty. Or find a friendly dealer. The gaskets you need to do that repair aren't cheap. (Not the bed plate ones, it's all the other ones).

It is a real pain in the ass to do, return it as much to stock as possible and let the dealer pull the cab and pull the motor out and re-gasket it while youre still under warranty. You might be better off speaking to a service advisor at your local dealer. I know at the dealership I work at we wouldnt turn down your warranty work fixing your oil leak due to modifications. Kinda hard to say mods cause an oil leak.

Not really.

Higher boost can cause higher crankcase pressure, therefore causing leaks.

You can spin it any number of ways. Bottom line is you ****ed with it now its broke.

I was told by a field service engineer when I was at ford the following. This is how it goes down.

DPF delete? No emissions warranty.

Tuned to make the DPF delete work?

No power train warranty, you modified the PCM programming with non authorized modifications.

Not trying to be a dink, just these are avenues you need to look out for.

Find a mod friendly dealer, or put it back stock are your only two options at this point. Just my .02

Our shop isnt that picky, as long as you arent a dickhead when you drop it off, we usually work with you.

The problem is when you have to rush a cab back down because the zone rep is coming to your dealer LOL!

Most dealers don't give a **** - it's money in their pocket.

well now that my truck is within 200 miles of being out of warranty looks like i will have to deal with it until i can pull the cab on it myself. what all needs to be taken off once the engine is removed and is on an engine stand? oil pan, upper oil pan, and then bedplate? is it that simple or is there a whole lot of other crap besides that?

main bearings will have to be replaced? or taken off? from what i understand the bedplate itself serves as the main caps as a whole piece rather than each individual cap. just wondering exactly how terrible this could end up being...

Unless you have the real pricey OTC stand you will basically need to strip it to a long block, turbos, intake, etc. the the HPFP cover, front and rear cover, then the bed plate.

If I do it then I will also be putting in studs. So it'll basically be tore down to a long block already. Man that's a lot of work just for a small oil leak

if its only weeping, my vote is leave it alone.
