Amsoil is NOT API licensed..... this does not mean that It does not mean that it does not meet or exceed API standards
If I was marketing a product. Especially for super premium prices, and it would meet or exceed industry standards, I would for sure get the official industry ratings to back up my say so.
Just went back and saw this. They do meet or exceed industry standards and have been given approved status for several OEM standards.
They still do not have the blessing of the American Petroleum Institute...FWIW
Only stuff carried locally is Rotella here and i frickin hate it. I put 15-40 in the last time I changed which was about 1k miles and it starts like crap even in 50* weather when cold.
With winter coming up what do you northern guys use? I normally use Valvoline 5w-40 year round.
sorry, I was discussing the relevant oils for this forum.... my bad
Here's the thing. I don't care what oil anyone runs in their truck. That's most certainly their business. That being said, I like misinformation about as much as the next guy. If discussion is required to rectify said misinformation, then we all benefit from it in my opinion. I even learned something from this myself after taking a few minutes to read up on API standards and more about what they mean. There's apparently a lot to it, and it is costly for companies to get the licensing. Interesting stuff, to me anyway.
touche my friend.... this must be somewhat recent as the last time I checked there was not an API cert diesel oil.... for the record though, I was not knocking amsoil before.... the API rating is really not much more than a confirmation of detergents anyways
