I doubt that that scanner is going to read any of the codes on a Powerstroke since Ford uses propriety software in their programing.

I keep harping on the WTS light just because if it doesn't come on then it means that there is a problem in the PCM or that the PCM isn't getting any power. Without power to the PCM the truck is going nowhere.

You also might want to check and see if there is power to the glow plug relay coil wires and if the relay is activating when you turn the key on. It should have battery voltage on one of the small lugs and a ground signal that will come from the PCM. If it doesn't get that ground then it is pointing towards the PCM and if you don't have power with the key on then back to the #22 fuse.

Your's wouldn't be the first truck that had the PCM taken out by the chip. If that is indeed what has happened.

I'm going to check junkyard for some parts. I don't know anyone in my area with a 97, or even with a scanner. I would have to tow it to Ford for them to diagnose.

You need power at the #22 fuse and a working pcm to run the truck. Get a scanner that reads icp/ipr and check that too.

How did you check 22? one lead to ground one lead to one of the metal pieces poking out of the top when the fuse is inserted. Should get 12.6 to both sides of it, if not the fuse is blown. I'm doubting your local dealer can check the PCM.

I replaced fuse today just in case but nothing. I checked it using my voltmeter switch to ohms. I'll try it that way and see.

Also check the #9 fuse under the hood, it goes to the PCM.

How solid was the chip seated onto the PCM when you removed it, was it loose or fairly solid? You could also do a search on her or elsewhere and find out where the power goes into the PCM on the plug and then unplug the connector and check for power to it.

Other than that you may have to take it to the dealer or someone that has the equipment to trouble shoot it.

Ok here is something else. This truck is garage kept. The first day the truck went bad I washed it. It sat outside garage today and it rained. When I open the door I noticed water on the floorboard next to e brake. I checked PCM location and it looks like the gasket is bad and water is leaking into the PCM. This may sound dumb, but can water fry a PCM? PCM has some rust spots on it. Sounds like this may have been a problem for awhile before I bought the truck.

I may just go for broke and buy a PCM and try it, probably need a new gasket if they sell them. I hope that's the problem, I hate seeing it in the driveway. I feel like I've done the majority of the typical tests and they all come up nothing.

Dropped it off at Ford last Monday. Tuesday they call and say the PCM is fried, so I got one and brought it up there on Saturday. I call today and they said that they put PCM in and that it's not communicating with the machine. I said well, what does that mean, and they said it could be something else?? I'm starting to get frustrated. There's no way 2 PCMs are bad.

Sounds more like the Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensor shorted (which has happened to other folks before)? We don't have an EGR system on our trucks (so really no DPFE sensor). Just trying to clarify for others that may be following. Cheers!
