Wow, that is really bad. I would just replace the whole box and get a new track bar that has a rod end on it so there will be no play in the rubber bushing.

That's what I was figuring on doing. Don't wanna chance it and the steering box be shot when I'm putting it together. Figured I'd have the old one repaired and have it as a spare (if it's reparable)

that looks like the actual pitman arm is the culprit and not the sector shaft ,, ?

that track bar bolt is close to a 400 ft lbs .. was the sector shaft nut loose?

maybe your lift was installed a little out of spec?

good idea on the video

Is there anything that could be loose inside the steering colum? Mine makes a horible noise from what seems like in there and I have a lot of slop. This is after I have replaced the steering box (fricken 900 bucks :biggun: ) all the tie rod end's, new track bar with heim joints, and new dual sterring stablizers. What else is there to replace? Sorry for the derail but this kinda sounds like what I got going on to.

with two people u can usually find the slop

truck off key on turn wheel back and forth to where you feel resistance

just look for things not moving as fast as the input ,,

the horrible noise is reason enough to stop driving it

whose box was $900 that's a lot

Get your hands on a HD track bar with Ballistic Heims. Very satisfied with mine. Despite some grinding.

I'm doing the remainder of the ball joints with heim joints when I get some more cash.

1 13/16 inch 1.8125 46.0375mm

close

I am seeing both 45 46 mm? must be a tweener

Part number: W709296 Sector shaft arm-to-sector shaft nut

NOTICE: The sector shaft arm-to-sector shaft nut must not be reused. The threads of the nut are coated with a dry adhesive. When the nut is removed, the dry adhesive is degraded. If the nut is reused, failure of the nut and/or sector shaft arm and shaft may occur.
Remove the sector shaft arm-to-sector shaft nut.
Discard the nut.

To install, tighten the new nut to 475 Nm (350 lb-ft).

Link (click section-11: steering, 211-02: power steering, steering gear - 6.4L diesel);

EDIT TO ADD:
searched around, and it looks like it's a 1-&-13/16" nut.

Now that I think of it... A few years ago I had bent my drag link bar and got a nasty death wobble. I took it to an alignment shop to get fixed and squared away, but I can't see that guy removing the pitman arm.

Thanks for the pics

Way off topic, but what steering stabilizer is that?

It is a de-badged top gun customz and Billsteins for shocks. I took an angle grinder to the name plate and painted the end of the shocks so they wouldn't discolor. The shock body is wrapped in 3M clear.

Sorry beefy.

(The drag link and the trac bar aren't the same angle and that's somethig I want to fix)

If you plan to continue to use the factory positioned ball joint at the axle side of the trac bar, then the trac bar and the drag link should never be at the same angle.

At the most after you make up the new bars. Remove the front coils then find a way to lock the tie rod so the wheels do not steer ( ive used ratchet straps). Now with the truck on a lift or attached to a crane cycle the suspension. The steering wheel shouldnt rotate atleast through 90 percent of the suspension travel. If it does, then change the angle of one of the two bars in the correct direction until the steering wheel stops rotating.

Bringing back an old thread, but I am wanting to replace my pitman arm on my 2006 F250 as it is sloppy from what looks like the nut coming loose. I assume it was put on the truck with what I think is a 4.5" Pro Comp lift (on it when I bought the truck).

Does it matter which pitman arm I buy? I see at least 3 different models for a 4" drop which is what I assume I need. Any recommendations, or are they all pretty much the same. I ask because I see a $30-$40 difference between the Pro Comp one and the Fab Tech one.

What other parts? I looks like I should get a new nut for the pitman-to-steering box connection? Is the part number W709296 for a 2006 as well? Still 350ft/lbs?
