Don't play around with the pickup tube. If you loose the part that is inside of the pan such as dropping it into the pan you will need to pull the engine to put it back on.

Oh believe me I am not messing around with it, I am just making sure it has a screen for peace of mind.

First I drained the oil, then tapped on the bottom of the pan till plunger was right over the drain hole. Then I got a small diameter wire, put a couple inch loop on the end of it. Put loop through drain hole then got it to where the loop was on each side the plunger. Again all from drain hole. Twisted the loop till was tight around plunger. Then loosened the big nut that holds the dip stick flange on pan. Feed another wire through the dipstick hole down to drain hole. Twist and turn till second wire goes through drain hole. Tied the two wires together then pull plunger and both wires out of dip stick hole.

:D Even amazed myself.

But dipstick flange was worn to begin with. Always leaked oil there.
