which route would you go? i have a studded and deleted 05' ready to rip apart and mod, should i go with a procharger and upgrade the turbo later? or buy the compound kit thats in the classified section now and source 2 turbos to complete it? (not sure how much 2 turbos would add to the cost of the kit itself) or go with a big single? like the mtw stage 4 or a ~68mm non-vgt?

or, take the nice clean, un-molested truck i have, sell it, and start with a 6.4? ive been leaning towards the 6.4 for quite a while now. but im debating modding what i have, finish paying it off, and buying a 6.4 later.

Personally going from a compound 7.3 to a 6.4 I'd never go back to a single. I'd either compound it or sell and get a 6.4.. Depends all on what you want to spend. Procharger and a big single would be kinda cool

Reason being for never going back to a single? I had an s465 before compounds on the 7.3 laggy ass pig, gt4094r now with a pt106 in front of it. Drives almost as well mannered as a stock charger nice and smooth til you lay into. A well paired set of compounds is the best of both worlds quick spool and all the air you could want. A procharger would be unique not necessarily economical...

My vote would be for compounds. The procharger and big single turbo, while very cool, is very expensive. It is cheaper to do compounds, especially if you can build it yourself. I do not like turbo lag, so a big single is not something I would do.

You can put the Procharger with a stock turbo and run 12's in the quarter while having an incredible towing machine. And it would cost the same or less than a good compound setup. You could always got to a larger turbo later if you wanted.

What size injectors are you going with? I know a couple ppl w/ Adrian's (MTW) Stage 4 and they love it. The lag is almost non existent from what I've heard and the spool up is quick and neck breaking. :D

I have had only single turbos, from T3 60mm, 63mm, 64mm, and 66mm. (Non Vgt)
What ever size the VGT SS is,
a bunch of Turbonetics T4 62, 66, and a 72mm non vgt's, and two sets of twins...a 66 over an 80mm and now a 63 over an 82mm.

No way I would ever go back to a single turbo....ever, ever, ever.

Would have liked to have tried the Procharger, but the price at the time was way too much...so I got nothing on that setup.

If you haven't done anything yet, maybe look at a newer truck (6.4L) they seem to make power easier then the 6.0L...but they have their issues too...so it's up to you.

I really believe that the VGT is the way to go. This is my opinion, and I will in the near future show why. I set out to build a option that would be in par with the compounds and non VGT. So far from the feedback and the experience of actually running one of these turbo has show that it is a good option. The stage 3 and stage 4 have shown to be simple drop it and able to put down big numbers, with small sized injectors. I have many guys out there with stage 3 and stage 4 that will be hitting dynos starting as early as mid march and rest of year. I believe there will be a lot of shocked people when the numbers start to come out. The turbos are very fast spooling turbos, just as fast as compounds and are very powerful as the big non VGT.

I hate to state facts but a compound set will only be as powerful as the size of the low pressure turbo. A non VGT same size as a low pressure turbo on the compound running by it's self will produce more power than a compound set at W.O.T. A big VGT turbo will a lot of flow will give you the best of both, acting like a compound quick spooling and the power of a single non vgt turbo.

Prices of the big VGT turbos are 2900.00-3400.00 and later this year stage 5 at 3800.00( will be the biggest VGT turbo made ) capable of handling 1200rwhp. So it basically comes down to preference, on what system you want to run, how much you want to spend and how much horsepower you want.

The only reason I have replied on this thread is that MTW was brought up by name and just wanted to brig out facts. People have different opinions to what they like, but until tried all of them then the opinion is not 100%. Shawn Elleton has had experience with a MTW, compounds and non vgt so he is possibly the only one that can truly give input here. I can only tell you my opinion on what I know which is the MTW VGT. I don't know how much it cost to set up a compound set and how much power depending on what turbos are used, and how street able you want the truck to be.

1200rwhp with a single vgt? on spray?

Garrett

Don't get hung up on the number, the turbo will be able to support 1200rwhp, but I didn't mean on fuel only. I have crunched the numbers and the numbers say that a 6.0 highest rwhp on fuel only is under 900rwhp if you can get enough air and fuel into it. The calculations were based off the cubic inch and set efficiency of the engine it's self. The numbers would go up or down depending on flow rate and so on, I based on a stock flow and efficiency. Now add nitrous to mix and it would go past that, been done already. There is a point when the cubic inches, and rpm limit the horsepower on fuel only. I believe the highest fuel only is at 836 rwhp on a 6.0, but if I'm wrong and it's more on fuel only then chime in. That number is a great accomplishment, and would be very hard to beat. What a turbo can support and what reality of what the engine can pump out are two different things. I would like to know what the hightest rwhp is period on fuel only, compounds, or whatever.

exactly and with a bigger charger and more fuel i belive 900 fuel only is possible... hell that was only with a single charge do compound with like a 472 over a 588 with 500cc hybrids and i think you could make major fuel only power

Not true on fuel only, the amount of horsepower that can be squeezed out of 6.0 liters is the limiting factor. You could put the biggest charger with the most fuel and the combustion chamber can only squeeze so much. There is a point where you just can over come the size of the combustion chambers. You can port heads to flow more air and stuff more air to the point when the combustion chamber size just can not squeeze and more power out of it.

Again a compound set will only flow as much as the size of the low compressor in the system, and one turbo is more efficient than two and makes more power.

There is much more than to just increase the turbo sizes and think that the horsepower will still keep increasing, just doesn't work that to a certain point. I'm not telling not to try, the more guys push the limits the stronger the 6.0 powerstroke become.

I understand what your saying Adrian but I believe you are talking clean power since you keep mentioning air flow… I am obviously talking completion on truck since I said 500cc injectors wich will be making the extra power off of the fuel… yes it will be hot and smokey but it would not be a street truck anyway
