Pump seal

got my new pump and the snap ring fits in the front but not sure if it will solve the problem.

By looking at a pump I've got that we ordered and never got used like 5 months ago it looks as though the snap ring won't even be in contact with the seal

no not out of my old pump it didnt have the snap ring in it either. it doesnt touch the seal. I looked at a pump from work on a truck that I am putting a long block in and the snap ring doesnt touch the seal it seems either.

If the snap ring doesn't contact the seal on the original pumps maybe its there more to prevent a catostrophic failure (ie fill the crankcase with diesel quickly). If the seal backs out or gets pushed out by too much fuel pressure and stops at the snap ring it's more likely to be a trickle of diesel instead of a gusher into the engine.
