I will ask the dumb question..is it certain death to tune a bone stock truck?

Tune it. Just make sure you monitor. Get a CTS or other gauges. Watch things like EGT, BP, oil and coolant temp, etc. Don't drive it like a 16yr old in a race car and you'll be fine. Do plenty of research on your truck and understand what you need to be aware of and how to prevent issues.

Why are you so worried about it? I've already had a PM with a mod said it was perfectly fine for me to endorse BRP as long as I didn't start a thread on it. So please carry on with your day sir.

I have the raped ape from back road performance and it shifted horrible. I will never put it back in my truck again. Not even a revised tune, not putting my trans through that again. I love my gearhead and tsd tunes.

Yeah, something about good tunes from legitimate tuners. Sounds about right. Maybe someone should clue this other dude in on that LOL

Legitimate? Now I am laughing, if legitimate means not answering emails, and never being able to get it right time and time again then yea absolutely.

No, It's not worth messing up my trans to get it right. I just tried his tunes because I heard good things about his tunes. Nothing really against his tunes just doesn't work for my truck.

I have a scangauge that seems to do well. My oil/coolant are within 8 degrees cruising at 60-65 and FICM holds 47.5-48v

You need to monitor EGT and a scangauge won't do that. It's your truck though.

Alright guys, let's let this BRP thing go. Drew is not a vender here, but this dude isn't selling his stuff either. He's happy with his tunes and that's great. As long as he knows that Drew isn't a vender and other tuners pay to be venders here, I think all will be ok. Personally I'd rather see the venders that actually contribute to this site get pushed here, and I'm sure the mods will quickly clean this out if it goes much further.

I do need an EGT gauge. Coming from Duramax, Cummins and a 6.4. Are EGTs super important on the 6.0, as in are they one to melt down easy? I'm pretty nice to this truck but was curious and will need an EGT gauge for sure when I buy a travel trailer.

EGT's are super important on anything with a diesel and added power. Get a guage. Or just get an edge CTS

Look man, it's your truck and your money. As stated above, it doesn't matter what brand or engine within' a specific brand, EGTs are extremely important on ANY Diesel engine that you've installed power adder(s) on. Each truck reacts differently to tuning. One may max out at 1450* where the next truck in the same tune pushes past 1600*. You never know until the gauge is installed. Even stock trucks that are pushed hard when towing can get pretty hot.

So to answer your question, no, the 6.0l engine is no more likely to "melt down " than any other Diesel engine, but when you're adding 140+ RWHP to a truck, it's better safe than sorry.

Just asking since I've had a number of diesels, all of which had EGT gauges and it wasn't something I ever used. It was there and good to know but wasn't something I watched intently.

No need to watch it intently, but it's important to have handy if you're towing heavy, towing in the hills, or playing around with power tunes. Towing is the biggest thing, as you're constantly putting heavy load on the engine. It's real easy to creep up into bad EGT territory when towing. The gauge let's you see it's happening so you can drop a gear, and/or adjust speed, to keep the temps under control. Without the gauge, your truck will run like a champ, right up to the point a hole is burnt through a piston. Diesels like heat. They run awesome when they're hot. Metallurgy hasn't gotten to the point that diesel can reach it's full potential with internal combustion, so a gauge helps you keep things under control.

But as was said, it's your money and your truck. If you don't think a couple hundred is a worthy investment, then it's not.
