why not just do the speed limit? If your not breaking the law then there is ZERO need to be scared of the cop hiding around the corner.
Because around these parts, NO ONE, including the troopers, does the speed limit. I regularly drive I-24 between Monteagle and Chattanooga. Eighty MPH is the average speed until you reach Lookout Valley and the traffic bunches up.

Ditto on I-75 from the Georgia line south to Wildwood. Three lanes north and southbound, each one with cars and trucks going eighty plus.

Old thread...any updated thoughts. My 9 lives are up and I need to do something since I can't seem to slow down. From my limited research the Escort Passport 9500ix still seems highly rated for the $.

Ditto to the guy's that recommend Cobra units. I've had 2 and the only reason I bought the second was to upgrade. Never had any problems with them, but whatever you go with I'd buy the cable to hard-wire it in to avoid the power port on the unit getting loose from the coil-y cigarette light style cable.

^^^^ This x100!!! Had one on my Viper, saved my butt when I was doing exponentially faster than the speed limit out here in the desert. Thing picks up everything inside a 2 mile range, takes a bit to get used to because you'll think it's messing up cuz you don't see a cop anywhere, but a mile later: boom there he is!

Valentine One or Escort would be the only two I would spend my money on.. IDK anything about Valentine customer service so you will have to research that but Escort is like S&W customer service, second to none. With the heat and cold temps the detector will be left in for many days/hours there is a fairly decent possibility the electronics will fail over time if you have it long enough so customer service is important..

Thanks for the responses. Valentine gets slammed for being old technology and the best of the best in their day but everyone that has used them swears by them. The big argument for the Escorts seems to be newer technology and gps flagging from what I can gather.

The Valentine used the same case. But the internals are upgraded.

Best part about Valentine is if they come out with a better software. You can update yours for free.

I was just reading about how they will upgrade the hardware to the latest technology for a fee as well. Curious if anyone has ever done this with an older model. Is the software update something you can download or do you need to send it in for a software update?

A LEO friend I knew would ask you if you would prefer the ticket or drive over your radar detector and squish it under your tire....LOL. Those were the old days...LOL

I have an escort that I liked, right up until it started acting goofy. Tried to send it in to get fixed...I was told I'd have to pay to fix it because I didn't buy it from one of their approved dealers. The quote to fix it was about $50 less than a new one.

If the stopped doing that crap, I'll send it in to get fixed, or trade up.

I've got an escort max 360 and i LOVE it!
Has saved me numerous times.
Came from a V1 and there's just no comparison.
I'll sell the V1 if anyone wants it, shoot me a PM.
Prolly needs to be updated.

What makes you say that? How old was the V1 to compare? I have a new V1 and it's amazing.

How old is your V1? I'm interested. I don't like moving mine from truck to truck, having 2 would be nice. Does it detect laser?

My V1 broke last year. I mailed it to them, they updated it for me, fixed it too, sent it back, been happy with it every since. I think it was the texas heat that killed it.

The cold and heat will kill them. I have forgotten about a couple of them in The vehicle at -20f and they needed to be sent back to be repair..

It was purchased in 08/2011 and according to the serial it is up to date.
The Escort 360 just doesnt miss any threats and gives such an advance warning. The difference is unbelievable.

Escort stays in the car, V1 is on the shelf at shop. I just dont use one in the truck.

Yes the V1 detects laser, pretty good at it too. Gotta stay on top of the updates on a V1, and if you get the GPS attachment it does tracking just like the escort, and "learns" your routes and tunes out false alerts "static speed radars". Honestly you can't go wrong with either one!
