Removal and install of turbo compressor housing and wheel

Hopefully I am posting on the right spot. My question is on an obs powerstroke do you need to remove the entire turbo to get the compressor housing and wheel off?

On a sd you can pull the housing. But on the obs the turbo sits lower.
You might as well replace the up pipe donuts at a minimum while it's apart.

Or bellowed up-pipes from Riff Raff. Nothing about removing/installing the obs turbo is fun so might as well eliminate as many problems as possible while it's apart. Gutted pedestal/flange, bellowed up-pipes, etc..

You pull them off together, unless you can get your hand up under the pedestal and remove the 4 bolts holding the turbo on

Ok I see what your saying now. I just went out and took a look. It looks like I already have two pedistal bolts missing -.- that'll make it easier to get off but I'll have to buy some bolts now. What do the bellowed up piped do and how hard are they to install?

They get rid of the junk factory setup. Lol

I don't think my up pipes leak. Should I replace them anyways? The only leak I see is some soot coming from the turbo outlet. Is there a gasket in there or just the clamp?

No gasket there.
Thing is, if you pull the turbo and don't touch the up pipes, they'll leak.

For $490 you can have a set of Riff Raff bellowed up-pipes. They are cake to install with the turbo out of the way, you put them together out of the truck and drop them in from the top. Just loosen the trans dipstick from back of the head since the passenger pipe goes behind it, drivers side is easy. It's not the worst job in the world but you'll find out $500 for up-pipes is nothing compared to pulling it all back apart later down the road..

FTW: one-piece bellowed up-pipes.

Few tips:
- Eliminate the bottom studs on the turbo collector if you opt to stay with the stock stuff. Having bolts makes it easier to install the turbo
- Grind out the "webbing" on the pedestal above the fuel pump banjo bolt. Makes it easier to get to the bolt when you will be replacing the fuel pump.
- Eliminate the EBPV and EBP flap.
- Anti-seize, anti-seize, anti-seize, anti-seize

Thanks for the advice. This is the rebuild/upgrade kit I decided to go with.

I plan on getting bigger injectors later on. From my understanding this kit is basically like a d66 turbo.
I have replaced my lift pump last winter and it remember it being a pain! I also replaced the fuel bowl when I did that.
