Replacement Navigation DVD for 2008 ?

My OEM (early 2008) nav system won't read the navigation DVD anymore. Is it the CD or the unit itself ? How do I troubleshoot it ?

What is the newest version of DVD I can run if I get a replacement ? I think I'm running 5P now. 6P ? 8P ?

If the unit ends up being faulty, I have one for sale $425, that I took out of my 08, to install a high end pioneer
