It was -13 this morn here.

The truck idles up based on ambient temp sensor. Touching any pedal will kick it down or else it will kick down itself when coolant temp is 160

42 right now on the water! Anything below 30 is too cold!

How are you supposed to have fun in the snow when it's over 30 degrees? :D. Some days (usually when I'm outside working on a frozen truck) I wish I lived in a warmer area.... And where I am at is mild to some of you guys!

Lol snow? What's that?

Despite being in the low 30s and 20s here, and being 50ft above sea level and humid, I doesn't snow much here. Only twice that I remember.

This. When I opened up this thread last night I read the first couple of posts, had a facepalm moment and exited out with out a comment. I was speachless.

This is like the 3rd one too…

I thought the idea of high idling was logical, it's cold, so the engine is cold, start the engine and it wants to be warm, higher RPMS= more heat, so engine idles at 1k rpm or so. Never seemed to be an issue so to speak. I guess south Louisiana is colder than people thought if I've seen high idle temps…

Well sir its not a dumb question. Around here it doesn't get 20 below like other geographical locations around the globe. It was the first time this, high revving, has happen to my truck since I have owned the truck (second year). If you can, which would probably benefit you, please keep your unnessassary comments to yourself. It will make this forum a better and more enjoyable place.
Thank you.

It was 46° this morning and my truck idled up…he may not have said it in the most polite manner, but I've seen 2 or 3 threads on this topic, so maybe a search could've found the answer. And I believe it's in the owners manuals(if you still have it).

I did a search but had a hard time finding a thread. (May have been the way I worded it) Owners manual was at the house.

Certainly not a dumb question. Your truck is revving up for an unknown reason? I just find it funny that it rarely if ever gets cold enough for the engine to idle up. It's amazing the differences in climate from one place to another.
Like they say, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

I kinda laughed when I read the thread because trucks high idle up here 9 months out of 12.. Then I thought, some of you guys never have it happen it's so warm year round down south so I can see why it would be a surprize to hear it come up for the first time, I mean anything out of the ordinary in a 6.0 is cause for concern.. Your allways on edge, what's that noise, did that do that before, oh now what the ***... LOL

On a serious note, I would be willing to bet, 6.0's are much more reliable in the southern states, FICM's, injectors etc need to operate perfectly up here or they won't run worth a damn...

Just don't let it go into high idle if you have a pmax and straight pipe.

That whistle is so loud it hurts my ears when I try to go get in the truck. I am sure my neighbors hate me.

The way I tell if it's cold is as follows:
If you start your truck and the power steering pump is louder than the engine, it's cold. If the noise from the power steering pump SUDDENLY stops, go check it out because your return line busted. Lol

My power steering pump was louder this weekend. A nice brisk -17 on Saturday morning.

I live in Dallas Ga about 30 miles west of ATL and about 20 miles north of I-20. It gets relatively cold here 20's are very common, teens happen a couple times a winter and single digits are rare. I have a high idle switch (upfitter#3) on my truck that holds RPM at 1200 and and set up a timer where I park my truck at the house so the block heater engages at 3 am. Then when I turn the key at 7 am on the weekends, it doesn't take long to blow warm air. The whistle on the turbo I'm currently running is ridiculous at high idle and I'm sure the neighbors hate me. I mostly use my high idle switch in the summer to keep the AC blowing cold while I run in the store for beer.
