Rim offset and lowering question

I'm sure some of y'all will bash me, but here's my situation. I have a 2001 2wd F250. I'm wanting to lower it with the DJM 3/5" kit. Im wanting to go to a 22" rim also. All the ones I look at seem to be 22x9 or 22x9.5. I do not want the rims and tires to stick out much past the fender at all. But of course I don't want any rubbing either. Am I asking too much? Ive tried to read about offsets and back spacing but I find more info for lifting and putting huge tires on. Any help is appreciated. Basically, what offset should I be looking at?

22x10 with zero offset will tuck under that drop and clear a 305/45/22 with no issues.

I just put 20x9 with +1 offset on my 04 and the 305/50/20 sit flush with the fender.

Mine isn't lowered in the front yet, but no rubbing issues.

I didn't want mine sticking outside the fender either.

I appreciate the input. I know you from DIYMA. I met you in Sealy for some X-Ion amps once. I figured you could definitely know.

Thanks. That what I'm wanting to hear. Are you planning on lowering?

Do yall know where that kit can be bought at a better price than straight from DJM? With shocks it looks to be about $1000. Which doesn't seem to be too bad. But of course I'd rather pay less.

I got mine from summit, I called another place and got their best price but I could hardly understand the foreign guy on the phone. I called summit and they matched the price so I bought everything from them.

I found my kit used on this web site. They aren't really common, but they are out there. I paid less than half new price for the full front and rear kit (less shocks). I'm going to continue to run Bilstein shocks and will not be using the DJM shocks. Bilstein will custom build the rears for me to fit the drop once I get it installed and know the exact dimensions.

I plan to run 20x9 +12 offset Racelines with 275/55R20 on the front and 305/50R20 on the back. I have to measure one more time to make sure I don't have to go +0 offset, but I'd rather have them tucked the extra half in than flush with the fender.

I'll know fore sure if it all works later this summer!

Im glad to see others chiming in on the lowering and rims. I figured I would be bashed for it ha.

Id love to see a used setup for the lower kit. If anyone knows of one please let me know. Or if someone wants to go back to stock feel free to contact me.

Here's a little known secret for those 99-04 trucks...not sure on newer ones.
Anyway...a 99-04 4wd front shock is the perfect length for the back on a 5" rear drop for those years.
It's a little firmer but that's what I liked about it. I used the red color KYB's on mine.

Good tip... unfortunately mine is 2wd. And my shocks are needing to be replaced. So that's why I decided to go ahead and do what Ive always wanted to do with my truck.

I'm Running 285/50/20 currently and it fills out the wheel wells in the front. I think the springs are sagging and have a new set waiting to go in so I'll see how it looks then. I may have to move up to a 305/50/20 if I can fit it.
I have to do something about the back, it rides like dog chit..

That's what I'm saying. For a 5" rear drop use the front shock from a 4wd. It's the correct length and has the correct eyes. You should also have the bolt on lower shock mounts on the rear axle, loosen those, roll them down a bit and slide them out as far as possible. You'll increase the amount of work the shock can do and have better control of the rear axle.

So I talked to the guy at the local tire shop today while getting tired for my car. I told him what I'm looking to do. He said the only thing to consider is that the 22" tires I'm looking at won't be heavy duty enough for the truck. I don't pull much at all. Should this be a concern? I'm almost tempted to find some nice factory 20" and will lower it. I could even powder coat the wheels if needed to look better. Maybe I could get a nicer tire going that route.

I ran either 305/40 or 305/45/22's for almost a decade and towed stuff cross country more times than I can count. Never had a flat or blow out. That truck is still on the road today with that size tire on it.

Ok. Good to hear. I do pull my cargo trailer full of cabinets. But nothing crazy heavy. 20" vs 22" is something I'm considering even as far as ride quality. Money isn't a factor because it isn't much different at all.
