It was. He made a 6.20 pass leaving soft and peddling it at the end of the track, and then broke something on the next pass. I never made it back over to talk with him after that, so I'm not sure what broke. Sounded drivetrain related.
I was thinkin the same thing...plus it'd be really bad ass to see some 4 wide diesel drags at zmax
While I 100% agree that the event needs another venue, you better be careful what you wish for wanting it at Z-max. They are sticklers there about tech and safety and general racer courtesy. They wouldn't let half the trucks that were racing yesterday run without a helmet, a lot of them would have to have driveshaft loops, etc, and a good number of them would need cages. Depending on the event and payouts, they likely wouldn't let folks run with antifreeze either. The dumbasses running with mud caked all over the trucks and water in the beds would not be tolerated at all. It would certainly make it a lot more difficult for the average redneck to roll up and start racing. But hey, maybe that's a good thing.
And I don't know for sure if Z-max has a sled track or not. I doubt they'd put one in just for this event.
I'd vote for it to be at Rockingham. The track is awesome (super wide, LONG shutdown, and 1/4 mile), and it is a VERY nice facility with plenty of seating and bathrooms. It'd also be easy to separate the racers/pullers parking from the spectators parking (which is a major problem at Piedmont with this many folks) because they have hundreds of acres of parking space. And I
think they have a pulling track down there, too (or at least plenty of space to put one in).
That reminds me of something else that's out-of-hand at this event: ATVs and bikes riding around. It should absolutely be cut out except for racers that use them to pull the trucks back. I've been to lots of big race events, and I've never seen one that allows any old Joe to bring in their ATVs and drive around like dumbasses all day. I was almost hit by one on several occasions, and I personally saw 2 that ran into trucks. Completely unacceptable.
