Running F450 stuff on F350 dually

450 axle is not a direct swap, leaf spring issues vs calipers, different pinion to driveshaft connection, different gears, etc....

Going to be too much to mess with for only getting the brake upgrade. Putting adapters on rear to run the 19.5" wheels and putting brand new rear Calipers, Pads, Rotors and seals all in rear.

On the front I'm putting in new ball joints, 450 spindles, 450 Calipers/Rotors/Pads, 350 hubs, 450 adapters, 19.5" wheels.

The The ball joints from F350 4x4 - F450 2x4 or 4x4 are the same.
The F450 2wd and 4wd spindles are the same
The F350 4wd hubs are the same as the F450 hubs
The F350 4wd and F450 4wd steering components are the same

The 450s have bigger hubs and bigger axles both flange and dia. also they are 37 spline.

I know that. Relocate the spring perches on the axles and a custom driveshaft done deal.

Prolly just swap yokes, move the perches and bolt it in driveshaft and all.

An axle swap would be minimum issue to get the 19.5 brakes out back. The distance between brake calipers is less then the widest point of the leaf springs.

I'm just putting on adapters and brand new motorcraft rotors pads and calipers. Actually that's already done. I'm putting injectors in it this week.

Are you saying that you can't relocate the leaf spring perches because if you move the perches outward the leaf springs would hit the brake calipers? And this on the square tube axle?

The short turning radius axle you were thinking of was the super 60 option that came on the 450 and 550. We had one in our 550 and it was great with the stock tires on it. Good luck with the rear swap though. I would look into doing some baer brakes if you are just wanting larger brakes. Seems like it would be easier.

Took some measurements. Moving spring perches isn't an issue. The rear brakes on the 450 axle are narrower then the widest point on the f350 springs.

The value of switching to the f450 stuff was to get the brakes, and wheels and tires - cheap. If I switch axles there is a lot more expense incurred, ieurchase axle, swap gears, lift rear to avoid spring to 450 brake contact .... etc.

I can put adapters on, use my f450 wheels and I installed all new OEM calipers, pads, rotors, etc.... most valuable way to upgrade IMO. I could have bought upgraded brakes and calipers but for the price I pay for OEM ... hard to beat.

So up front I have f450 ball joints, spindles, rotors, pads, calipers, adapters, wheel and tires.

Out back I have new OEM dually e brakes, calipers, rotors, pads and then adapters. Then using f450 rims and tires.

I needed 6 new 235/85/16 tires and one rim was cracked and another was bent so I needed two dually rims. I can buy 19.5 tires new the same price as 235s. The price of adapters absorbed the price of the two dually rims I needed. Up front truck needed ball joints and brakes. Out back it needed rotors,, e brakes and pads. One caliper was hung up.

I think I pulled the most value out of situation at hand.

the steering gear box is the same from the 350 to the 750. i am about to replace mine for the second time (01 7.3) went with a redhead steering box out of washington state, cant wait to test drive it!

Where did you find the adapters for the rear Marty? Looks like they are 8 x 170 to the bigger 450 8 lug pattern on the older super duty's?

Few years ago, I slung everything from under an '06 F450 c&c under my '06 F350. Love it. Super60 front, D110 rear with a truetrac. 4.30s.
