Alright, Corell (knuckleup83) was gracious enough to send me hi-res maps of the sxe turbos. Here is the gtp38r and the 364.5 for comparison. Also through the 63mm in there too.

Someone can by all means correct me here but in my opinion the 38r isn't really a close match to any of the SXE turbos. I feel there is a significant gap between the two classes. While the 38r is a great turbo for a lot of applications and performs very well in a lot of scenarios, I feel the difference between the 38r on a well setup truck and an SXE on the same truck would be very different in terms of power, response, and performance.

The new S400SXE 72mm outflows the current 76mm S400. Excited when I can show you guys those charts!

Technology has definitely come a long long ways in the last few years!

Yup, everybody gives me the deer in the headlights look when I mention the 62 being a great tow turbo.
These charts just prove that it can out perform the 38R.

Personally I think that a 62sxe with a .83 internally gated housing should be the new factory replacement for a 7.3. The 38R is old skool technology now.
Mind you it wouldn't fit in factory location with out a bunch of work but you get the idea. .

I like how we are all on the same page. I also am amazed at how these new turbos and their modern technologies improve on the old and break the molds of previous generations.
I am leaning toward the larger turbine 64.5 with the .91 housing. Does anyone think it may be too restrictive or too slow off the line?

Not knowing much about these turbos, I'd be curios to see how the exhaust side compares to the 38s.

I tried to find them a couple months ago, but couldn't come up with a hi-res version. Corell shows up out of the blue and here we go.

Absolute maximum flow is only one aspect of how a turbo will perform. One of those turbos excels because its spooling characteristics. The maps do look great but Id have to see a running truck with one on it to say its better or not.

People went on about how much better an s366 was than a 38r back in 08-09 and even into 2010. I rode in a custom tuned eclb 7.3 with 238/80s and an s366 and it was a ***kin turd but on paper it was a match made in heaven lol...on paper...

I am conceding that these turboes are much better but still needs to be experienced. Now as somebody mentioned theres no reason the 62mm version wouldnt be a great turbo for a hot towrig. Good turbine specs and voluminous compressor side. It should push tons of air off idle with a bit of fuel.

While I'm not claiming that an SXE will be the end all be all of turbos, I can say that the SXE 66mm and the old 66mm perform way different so far on the applications I've tested them on (3.0l I6 motors and LS motors). Im really excited to see any of these on a 7.3l. If I wasn't using mine for a daily and a rodeo horse tow rig I'd use mine for a test truck.

Cjfarm111 is running the 364.5, and thinks it's awesome. Not sure if he ever ran the 38r though. He is coming from an hsfb or qssb that was a total turd, so anything would seem awesome relative to that. Lol! I agree that the 62mm awesome on paper. One of these or the 64.5 would also make an outstanding hp turbo in a compound setup.

I'm curious to see what housing will end up working best with these setups. The only open housing is a .88. From there you can choose either a .91 divided, 1.00 divided, or order Tial V-band housings in a 1.02 or 1.16. There is also a T4 1.10 housing available. This housing is custom made from the older style 76mm housing that gets bored out for the 80mm wheel.

There is also a .83 internally gated housing in a divided t4 for both the 68 and 74 tw.
