S480 big enough to be used as big turbo for compounds?

Charles what were the differences between your 250/200's and 300/300's besides more hp. Any more smoke off idle/light pedal/heavy pedal how did you compensate in the tuning?

after reading your post on injectors on PSN and other places im tempted to just try 300/300's or 400/300 because where you were at with your 300/300's 644hp is exactly what im looking for. but then after reading your tuners need to up there game thread im weary about going that high because ive had issues getting the smoke tuned out of my 250/100's 38r. i already have a chip burner on order. im half tempted to get the tuning software and start playing around with it. there was alot of good info in that tuning thread. i spent a few hours last night reading all 52 pages.

The 200's were notably more crisp. And I don't know where you will find a "300" as mine were 200's that were sent to Jim at EH and made into 300's. I actually intended for 400's right then and there, but through some confusion over % of vs %over I ended up with 300's.

If I were you, I would run the 200 and see if you can break 600, and/or if it feels good to you. If not... you can always do a nozzle swap later. The 200 is just such a crisp nozzle. Then again.... the 300's were a lot more fun, lol.

Fwiw, I don't think the tuners need to up their game so-to-speak. My point was that the general consensus needs to change. I expect the tuners can do whatever they need to do in terms of skill, I just don't think people are allowing it to happen because of the mentality that a bigger nozzle means more smoke.... when it doesn't. In fact, power per power it often means less.

If I had it to do again I'd run the V60 gate or similar. The 44 is not enough to bypass the full brunt of the drive around the 38R at higher power. Right now with the 55 set at a lowly 25lbs or so lbs, I cannot run less than ~80lbs on the manifold because I cannot control the 38R anymore with this big free-flowing turbine that's on the 55 letting everything out easy and not putting much backpressure on the 38R anymore.

Even so.... years ago I actually disassembled the Tial 44, ground down the top of the valvestem and cut some turns off of the softest of the "large" springs that Tial makes for the 44 just to get more lift and flow.

The 44 is insufficient IMO. With the 47 and an expected boost of 60+psi it was fine. With a freer flowing first stage turbine..... it's all it can do to keep the 38R at 20lbs or less, full song. It would be better to keep it at say 15 and let that 55 sing on up a little. Plus it would be nice to simply be able to run less than 80lbs, lol.

Moral of the story.... look to something larger IMO.

44s are going to have to do and they should from what u said. Crap man v60's are double the cost of the 44's I can get both 44's for 600, 1 60 Is 550-600. If I must I must but the 44's should work for me I hope

Do you have to run the same gate on both chargers? If not, from what I take from what Charles has said, you may just need the 60 for the 38r.

You might try another brand then. I'm simply stating that if I built a compound setup right now... I would not use a 44 for the second stage with a 38R turbine being so small.

Lotta mass flow to push through a little turbine and a 44mm port without lofting that charger up over 15lbs. If you plan to run 70+lbs of boost then it's a non-issue. If you plan to run say 50 to 60, and you run a large first stage turbine, then it's going to require the first stage compressor to just loaf along to keep the system pressure in check. This requires a big compressor wheel to move lots of air at low pressure like that.

first stage is going to be a gt88 or gt91 from forced inductions. 88 or 91mm compressor, both have a 94mm turbine and the 1.23 t6 ex housing is the housing of choice for this application im guessing? only other option is 1.08.

So with either of those first stages, i should do the precision 66mm wastegate (little cheaper and seems to be a good product) on the 2nd stage 38r. While using the 44 or precision 46 on the first stage?

yea i think charles made 597 with the 250/200 which seems kind of low.. i mean thuglike made 63x with 300/200's and a gt42 singlethen he made 644 with 300/300's? or was that with the 400/400's before he tried the gt55?

even he said 400/400 was too much fuel for the 38r/47 setup so maybe ill go 400/300 see what that does for me. i mean a clean 650 is all i can do with stock forged cryoed rods safely anyway.

It did 644,630,636,619,621,640,639 0n 3 different dyno's w/ 250/200's and a 42. Last time I rolled was October and it did 630,629,635.

I've seen a few rigs w/ 400/400's and it seems excessive to me for a DD'r
