So on your SD hubs it doesn't read "automatic" in one position, then manual in the next? Hmmmm.. We must be driving different trucks.

Oh some loser bobby said I'm wrong? Well dang gee golly I guess I cannot argue such irrefutable knowledge.

The hubs are not electronicly controlled.....

Go use Google and you'll find out. Lol

Vacuum actuated is NOT the same as being electronically controlled. What actuates the vacuum system? Jesus Juice? No an electronic system detects wheel slippage when then actuates the vacuum hubs.

Regardless, super dutys hubs are NOT engaged all the time.

Youre still wrong...... Lol

In my sd if the wheel slips.... Nothing happens until I turn the dial and put it into 4wd. At that point the vacuum pump locks the hubs.

Face it you're wrong.

Well that's YOUR truck. MY super duty and all my friends, it says "automatic" on the selector. When the truck slips, it locks the hubs. Just like the expedition my parents had (except they had auto hubs, no manual backup). If your truck detects nough slippage, its supposed to engage 4wheel. Is it the most effective? No. That's why they have the manual hub option for backup incase your vacuum actuators fail, or you KNOW you'll need 4bi.

My truck and many other superdutys do NOT have that. on the hubs on my truck is says lock or auto..... Auto meaning that they will automatically lock once I put it in 4wd.

Shall I go take a pic of the selector for 4wd?

Your statement of the SD is still incorrect. The hub does not lock electronically. It never has. A vaccum system is not an electronic actuator....

The auto function on your hubs means that they will automatically engage or lock in when you select 4x4 high or low on the switch on the dash. The hubs will stay locked in as long as your switch remains in the 4x4 position. The hubs do not detect slippage to engage, they use vacuum from a pump to mechanically lock the hubs. This is how all superduties work.

Edit: this is how all superduties are designed to work. My truck currently has some bad vacuum lines so the hubs will not work in the auto position.

I'm confused, why are we explaining superduty hubs when the original question is about obs hubs? The hubs function differently from one body style to the next.

Read below LOL After that we tried to explain to him how he was wrong....

^ that's very true Cat.. But don't they also have electronically locking hubs like the super dutys? In which case, they aren't locked until the vehicle detects slippage or the driver puts it into 4wheel right?

Lol, ok. Now I see.

So what really engages the things anyway? Is it electricity, vacuum actuators, slippage detectors, or some kind of voodoo magic. Maybe I need to perform some sort of exorcism on my truck to make my hubs work again. Nah, I still have manual mode.

Don't auto hubs disengage when you back up when going back to 2wd?
