I was juuuust about to order up a Livewire, and for the first time looked at the X4. It looks like it does a lot of similar functions...

One of my biggest gripes with the Livewire TS is the lack of a good pod for it. I would much rather have a pillar full of gauges, than a GPS-lookalike. The 1 feature I do like is the rear-view camera input... but I guess that's minimal.

I am... a frugal guy. So if I can save $200 on the cost, and still only need EGT and FP (which would cost near the same since I would need the PLX box and a FP sender/adapater/fuel line)... the X4 is starting to look like a good alternative.

So, PSA, what are the main differences - and what is the general opinion?

Livewire TS can monitor quite a few parameters. To me, thats worth the extra cost alone. With the TS you wouldn't even need pillar gauges.

i havent found a list of PIDs yet, but it looks like the X4 can monitor the same, maybe not display 9 at a time, but still.

the X4 also has 2 analog inputs, in case i wanted to monitor FP and EGT through the device.

I still have more research to do... i love the look of a quad pillar setup, looks like the biggest problem I might run into is finding 2 more gauges on top of the FP and EGT

Isn't an X4 made more so for just tuning, and checking parameters if needed? Not as a daily monitor. If it is made to be a daily monitor, its one big, bulky, ugly SOB. Someone on here makes a SWEET livewire dashpod. Works with pillar gauges also. The livewire has inputs too.

yeah, the X4 has a color screen and can monitor (from what ive seen) 4 PIDs

AIR FLOW #/MIN -BAROMETRIC PRESSURE IN HG -BATTERY VOLTAGE -COMMANDED GEAR -COOLANT TEMP -ENGINE LOAD -ENGINE OIL TEMP -EXHAUST BACKPRESSURE -FICM IGNITION -FICM LOGIC POWER -FICM MAIN INTERNAL INJECTOR -ICP DUTY CYCLE -INJECTION CONTROL PRESSURE -INJECTOR PULSE WIDTH -INTAKE AIR TEMP -MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE -PEDAL POSITION -RPM -TIME RUNNING -TIME RUNNING -TRANS TEMP -TURBO BOOST -VEHICLE SPEED -VGT DUTY CYCLE -ANALOG IN 7-RED FIREWIRE -ANALOG IN 8-ORANGE FIREWIRE

i agree, it is ugly as sin. but i can throw it in the center console or glove box when I don't want to see it.

X4, 2 gauges, and a pod of some sort will run me roughly $700-725.

TS, PLX, FP stuff, about $900 before exploring any mounting options.

I can put that extra $200 towards an oil cooler, egr delete, turboback, or any other item on my laundry list of mods :)

FWIW, I got an X4, my 4" exhaust, and an Edge CS for right about a grand all told, it seems to all work well enough together.

That would be a good option... however I would still need to pay a little extra to get the FP and EGT in, right?

I'm looking at the Diamond Eye 5" exhaust with 4" DP, despite the supposed loss of bottom end with the 4" DP, or perhaps the shift of the powerband, or perhaps nothing... I'm just an ignorant bragging rights type of guy. It's horrible, i know.

The worst part is, the extent of this truck (beyond suspension/aesthetics), is studs and a hotter tune. Who know, maybe later on down the line I'll get more into it, but it's not in the plans right now. But for now the 4" DP is completely useless, and more trouble than it's worth.

So X4 from QuickTricks w/ unlimited tuning is $469 shipped
2 gauges & pod roughly $200
DE Turboback $330
Even $1000 right there

No, my Edge will monitor EGT and fuel rail pressure.

The X4/CTS combo is hands down the best. My advice would be get the X4 now, use it to tune and to do some monitoring, and when you are ready/have the $$, get the CTS and the EGT and FP inputs. The CTS is much more user friendly vs the Livewire TS. It just doesn't have the all in one aspect that is nice about the TS... If you have questions or need prices feel free to PM me or call us. We can hook you up with anything for your truck.

im just about set on the x4,thanks for the reassurance. but I am leaning towards gauges for FP amd EGT, since the x4 also live displays everything else. only problem is, as mentioned, it's an ugly SOB

necro-update.

got the x4,was cool, but had to send it in for warranty.

decided to get the Livewire, new TS+ model (5015p).

Overall I love it. its now wifi capable, plugs in the back, but only supports 2 analog inputs (which is all i need).

its a new release and didnt work on my truck though, had to have tech support remote into my PC and manually load BETA firmware.

Also made a custom backing plate for it and mounted it into the Edge Pod 18300

Only downside is I cant utilize the ambient light sensor on the back.

PLX SM-EGT came in today as well as my FP relocation hose and fitting adapter. Just waiting on the FP sender itself, and had to order up some more wiring since all i have on hand is 16awg.. bit too thick.
