SD turbo swap

If you are going with stage ones I don't see the need to really spend the money on a D66 when it is really not needed. Also if you plan to go allot bigger down the road and your re sale value on that turbo will go down a good bit... Hell my stock turbo with 300/200's rock out.

I used a SD van turbo on both trucks. The only diff between the van and truck turbo is the exhaust housing is a 1.15 non-wg on the van. So no wastegated for me. If you have to get a diff exhaust housing anyway for it, then I'd find a 1.15 and then you don't have to worry about the wg. Problem is they're harder to find than a stock truck .84 housing. If you did install it with the wg'd housing, you'd need to clearance the firewall a touch more I'd imagine. And get a Turbomaster or whatever the brand is that DieselSite sells that isn't actuated off of boost. It's mechanical.

I'll see if I have any good pics that show the firewall clearancing. If not, I'll go take some pics it. I 4lb mini sledge in just the right spots for massaging is all I did.

Will my truck be ok using the wastegate? What does the turbo master wastegate thing do?

I'm thinking about doing a super duty turbo swap on my truck this summer. I have all the parts needed to do it but i have some questions as to how to go about it. Do i need to use the sd manifolds or can i get away with using my obs ones? And will the turbo fit or will i have to do some fire wall mods?


I have a write up on PSN on this. It does take some firewall work.

Excellent writeup too Tom! I used it as well as your electric fuel writeup when working on my setup. Very informative.

I got a few pics taken tonight of how the their is in relation to the firewall modifications. I'll post up tomorrow.
