smoke haze at idle

For the last couple of months I have noticed a smokey haze coming from the exhaust every now and then. It looks similar to the output of my ccv when I had it vented to the atmosphere. It's not the puff of white during cold start ups, the truck is at operating temps and when I'm at a light or just idling it will happen. I have no idea where to start looking. I ran AE and didn't find anything, buzz test and contribution test look fine. A buddy of mine who knows cummins and dmax's fairly well thinks it could be injectors or possibly turbo. I'm going to pull the down pipe to see if there is any oil coming out the turbine, but other than that what am i looking for?

BTW the truck is back to stock. No tunes, stock injectors, no alarming oil consumption, 265,xxx miles.

I don't know. Every time it happens I'm in a spot where I can't jump out and get a good look. would injector o-rings cause it? I just changed my fuel filter and it wasn't dark with oil.

Ccv goes to the intake. A few times I've seen it at light throttle coming off the highway.

I will be doing a fuel pressure test Tuesday or Wednesday. What EGTs should I be seeing on a flat highway @ 45 and 65?

i was thinking about turbo seals being out.. my dually and my brothers 02 both did the slight haze at idle when the ccv was routed to atmo. put it back to the stock location and it quit. but if your still getting some haze after you rerouted it back to stock then i would think its to late... powerstruck has a good point too... but with to low/high of pressure it may be doing the same thing... if low, i would think there would be more problems popping up..

year/make/model?

L99-01 6speed trucks have a (factory set) parameter that can cause/account for this.

It's a f series 2000 auto. I should have time to check the fuel pressure and map ICP and duty cycle tomorrow. Is there anything else I should be looking for in AE? I'm fairly new to AE, still trying to learn the system. I'm really hoping it's not injectors! I've gone back to school and I'm not sure if VA is going to pay me next month lol.

Well I wasn't able to do the fuel pressure test today. I couldn't seem to find my JIC adapter, I'll have to go pick one up. However I did log a few passes up a steep hill aprox. .5 miles long to get a look at a few values.

Parameters I logged were;
Speed, RPM, ICP, Pulse Width, Boost, and Volume Fuel Desired.

I started logging in the driveway, wasn't sure if low speed cruse data through the neighbor hood would be useful. When I made it to the main county road I accelerated at a moderate rate to 55 mph. (highlighted in blue)

Then slowed down to 35 mph to do a rolling start to 50 mph up the hill. (Highlighted in green)

A 0-65 (Yellow)

2nd 0-65 confirmation pass (Red)

Now the hard part, trying to make sense of these values. What should I be seeing in these values?

I can read the attachment fine.. it needs to be cleaned up to be more easily read.

Im wondering about the high pulse width value when the ICP is at about idle level (500-700psi). Why would it command 3ms then, but only 2.7-2.8 at max load?

You guys are awesome, thanks Blowby; did you use excel for that graph? When I converted it to an .xls it turned it into a mess. Here is what I had for my first 0-60.

I have no Idea how to make use of this data. Where should my values be in correlation to one another?

I went to Hydraulic Supply and built a fuel pressure tester, it's a pretty nice setup. I used the parts list from Swamps site. I used to get a loner from the auto parts store and use an adapter I had but I could only test at idle due to the hose being too short. So I should have fuel pressure data in a few.

It looks like I found my problem. fuel pressure KOEO only hit 42 psi then bled down to 0 as soon as the pump turned off. So it's ether the pump or the regulator on the bowl. Is it ok to dead head the fuel pump for a pressure test?
