I've been wanting to get my hands on/in one for quite a while now. I constantly browse for one needing work. I came across one on CL earlier in the month but it was priced much higher than what I thought it was worth. It's been sitting on there for a while so on Friday I said "what the hell" and I called the guy. We talked and agreed on a price I was comfortable paying and I made the trip out Saturday morning.
The truck was supposed to run but "smoked" bad. I brought 2 batteries with me, swapped them in and couldn't get it started.
I said "screw it" and made the purchase anyways.

After spending hours trying to get it towed we got it to the shop in the afternoon.
Got it running running and the exhaust(DPF) was completely clogged shut. Exhaust/smoke was billowing out of the up pipes.
Unbolted the exhaust in front of the DPF and she starts with ease now but smokes out the world with white smoke and oil literally pours out of the exhaust.
I am guessing it has a cracked piston but it just idles so smooth. Does have a lot of blow-by puffing out with the oil fill cap off.
Truck is BONE STOCK.

We were going to immediately pull the cab and start teardown but come to find out this truck is supposed to have a Ford ESP on it good until 2014/200k.
I'm going to contact the local dealer we deal with tomorrow morning to see if it is valid and if they can do anything for me.
If not we'll probably be tearing her apart tomorrow night.

If anyone wants to share their opinion/thoughts, I am all ears.

I'll try and take a lot of pictures of everything we do and share them with the forum.

You need to have the person who's name is on the ESP sign it over to you, or have them take it in for you.

Never saw anyone get asked for ID but the name on the repair order has to be the same as the name on the ESP coverage.

If it is oil pouring out then it sounds bad. But taking the exhaust loose in front of the DPF would more than likely send it in to regen mode and that would be where your smoke is coming from. I would make sure that is not diesel coming out JMO. Might have just had a clogged DPF. I tried to run mine without the DPF and no tune. Made it about 2 miles and had to go back to the house due to all the smoke.

It's definitely oil and it has a pulsing puffing from the ccv.

Clogged dpf caused the turbos to take a chit. That's where your oil and smoke is coming from. Had the same exact symptoms and issue with my 09. Deleted and new turbos, everything was peachy. As for the blowby... It's a 6.4 lol. Both of mine had more than what i was used to seeing. But if its that bad, i would say Probably has a washed cylinder, from the back pressure of the clogged dpf and heat of regen. IMO. Anyone else wanna chime in?

I am starting to lean towards this myself. It makes more sense. IMO the truck just runs TOO smooth to have a cracked piston.

Trying to get this ESP transferred to my name and then I will figure out what I want to do.

Congrats man. It took me a long time to find both of my 6.4's. The last one took forever to find a loadedccsb with a blown motor. It's a good feeling when you finally land one for sure!

My preference is a CCSB but the deal on CCLB was one I could not pass up.
Once she is fixed I will be trying to trade for a short bed.

Does anyone know what the warranty on the DPF is>???
My thought process is if the DPF caused this mess and is out of warranty Ford is going to point the finger at that and not do anything for me.
I am leaning towards just biting the bullet and pulling the cab on her this afternoon/evening.

If it even was in warranty I don't think Ford would cover it. If the dpf was clogged and caused this then Ford would probably put that as owner maintenence neglect.

I love my long bed truck! Haven't gotten any seat time in the short bed yet.

the big 3 are horrible about warrantying emissions/dpf stuff... they will point fingers at damn near anything to avoid paying out on it
