stalls when put into reverse

as title says, sometimes my truck, when put into reverse, will chug then immediately die. Has anyone had this problem? What could be the cause?

Mine was the converter-- also did that in drive sometimes too, usually on the first shift of the morning. Once hot it was fine. The converter clutch valve was allowing the clutch to drift on then it eventually killed the clutches.

I had a feeling it was something in the converter. It feels like it locks then kills the engine. Thanks man!
