Stuck in first gear

Just bought an excursion not even a week ago. And this is the 4th time I drove it and now I am stuck in first. I bought the truck "as is". I there anything I can look at to fin out what the problem is.

Check for codes. What year is it?

It's an 01

I was pretty sure it was an '01. The '01 trucks had a problem that caused no 1-2 shift. It's called a mechanical diode. It was only used in the 2001 diesel trans. When the trans won't shift 1-2 the only way to fix it is to rebuild or replace the transmission.

Neither of those codes will cause a shift problem. It has a failed mechanical diode one way clutch. The trans needs to be rebuilt.
