I seen a couple posts and ppl asking about TEC turbos and wanted to share what I think about them. I had one built by them sent in an extra turbo I had and they completely rebuild it for me. Cleaned everything, New bearings, New seals, unison ring and balanced. The big change was the compressor housing and intake wheel. 64.7 inducer and 88 mm exducer. I had some egt issues with it at first for a combination of reason most caused by the shop that installed it. The turbo is pretty much the identical to a powermax ssx. The cruise and low boost egts are a lil high (700 -800 ) maybe a lil higher depending on the situation but I am running a xtreme street tune. But once the boost starts building ( 15 - 17 ) psi + the egts stablize, as the boost builds the egts sit about 1150 -1250. I was a lil concerned about the egts at first but I talked to Eric @ IDP and the Tech rep at TEC and they said with a turbo that size its normal to see those number till you start making higher boost levels. So back to the turbo its not laggy at all and it builds boost fast and hard. Ive pushed it a few times to almost 40 psi and it was still pulling and try to build more boost. But I had to let off because I'm worried about my stock tranny holding up. This thing sounds like a turbine engine around that much boost. They told me when they built it that it would do 45 psi and support over 650 hp. Imo for 1/3 the price of a powermax ssx I got a turbo that is just as good. I'm going to do some transmission mods load my IDP Xtreme X tune and see how far i can push this thing. Oh and on a side note if you go from a stock turbo to this turbo make sure you check all your intercooler boots I had one explode at about 30 psi the first time I hammered on the loud pedal. They have good customer service and are very knowledgeable about turbos, powerstrokes, and will custom build a turbo for you depending on what you are running or recommend one of their 3 standard builds which is what I did.
